The biennial event is held alternately in countries in the Asia Pacific region by European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN) for young physicists and scientific researchers in Europe and Asia-Pacific.

This is the 4th event of its kind held in the world and the first in Vietnam. It attracts 177 scientists from 31 countries, including eight Vietnamese ones.

It gives young physicists the opportunity to learn about recent advances in basic particle physics from the world's leading researchers.

The training course also aims to promote exchanges and experience sharing among young researchers in Europe and Asia-Pacific.

Nick Ellis from the CERN said the organisation of such event in different countries aims to bring scientific and physical knowledge to as many countries as possible.

Vietnam was chosen to host the event as the CERN saw the passion for study and research of young scientists in the country, he said.

This year’s school features aspects of field theory and standard model of electroweak interaction, quantum dynamics and neutrino physics, among others.

The event will run until September 25./.
