Nguyen Thi Thu Hang, an expert from the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), said this year tra fish exports have started to recover in some markets, including those under the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).
Vietnamese tra fish has also recorded positive growth in traditional markets, contributing significantly to the country's exports in the first seven months of 2024, including the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and others in West Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.
Statistics from VASEP show that Vietnam is the largest supplier of tra fish to the UAE, accounting for up to half of the total supply in this market. It is estimated that by the end of July, tra fish export to the UAE will reach over 15 million USD, up 47% year-on-year.
According to Doan Toi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Nam Viet JSC, China remains a traditional market for many Vietnamese tra fish exporters, including Nam Viet.
He went on to say that his company expects to earn over 60 billion VND (2.3 million USD) from exporting this type of fish in the first seven months.
In addition to exporting processed products, businesses have utilised tra fish by-products to create high-value items, such as collagen and gelatin products extracted from tra fish skin, which are favoured by many consumers worldwide./.
