Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee - Pham Van Canh surveys the practical situation of subsidence and landslides in Tan Tru district
According to the report of Tan Tru People's Committee, the erosion site occurred at the Nhut Tao sluice area (Binh Trinh Dong commune) with a length of 30 meters, depth inland of 10 meters; on Cau Trang river, Binh Trinh Dong commune with a length of over 10 meters; landslide in Cay Sao canal (Que My Thanh commune) with a length of over 20 meters, causing damage to 2 fishponds of people worth about 500 million VND; Tan Duc river erosion is in Hamlet 3, Lac Tan commune with the length of nearly 50 meters, causing damage to 2 fishponds. In addition, the change of flow on Vam Co Tay river erodes about 100 meters of river bank in Nhut Ninh commune.
The cause of erosion is mainly due to prolonged drought
Deputy Chairman of Tan Tru People's Committee - Trinh Phuoc Trung said: “The cause of landslides is mainly due to prolonged drought, the canals run out of water causing pressure loss, while the height of the channel depth is deep and the difference is elevation between the road surface and water level. In addition, due to the weak geological characteristics of the above-mentioned routes, there are some infrastructure works located near the river banks, with large loads and deep river beds, thus they also cause subsidence and landslides”.
Erosion causes 2 fishponds worth about 500 million VND
Facing the above situation, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee - Pham Van Canh directed functional agencies and localities to soon overcome landslide locations in Tan Tru district, especially the key ones. Two landslide sites occurring at Nhut Tao sluice area (Binh Trinh Dong commune) and landslide in Cay Sao canal (Que My Thanh commune) will be recovered before March 15 to serve people’s travel and production. In addition, localities should actively check the roads, sluices and dikes that are at risk of erosion, to actively respond by the fact that when the river bed is increasingly dry, the heat causes the soil to become drier and more shrinking./.
