A landslide in Can Giuoc district
The landslides occur because of many reasons. To be more specific, the dense traffic of large vessels affects the flow. The mooring of ships and boats is not in accordance with regulations. The construction of houses and warehouses encroaches on river and canal beds, increasing the load on soft soil.
From the beginning of 2019 until now, Can Giuoc district has 5 landslide locations; Ben Luc district has 3 landslide locations. In addition, Tan Tru district was eroded along the two sides of Vam Co Tay river and at the junction of Vam Co river in Nhut Ninh, Tan Phuoc Tay and Duc Tan communes, annual level of landslide encroaches on the shore from 1 to 3 meters. In Tan An city, landslide and land subsidence caused 4 houses (kitchen and extra works) to collapse into the Vam Co Tay River, Xom Lo, Rach Chanh Hamlet, Loi Binh Nhon Commune.
In order to ensure the lives and property of people in the landslide area, the Long An province’s Steering Committee on Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, Search and Rescue issued Official Letter No.1029/BCHPCTT on actively inspecting, reviewing and proposing measures to handle critical areas that are at high risk of landslide before the rainy, storm and flood season.
In addition, Official Letter No.2245/BCHPCTT was also issued on the installation of warning signs in landslide areas in the province; surveying, monitoring of areas that are at risk of large landslides, dangerous, seriously affecting people's lives, recommending households in landslides to move to the safe area as well as mobilizing people and vehicles not to go into areas where landslide is occurring or at risk of lanslide.
At the same time, local authorities should regularly propagate on the mass media about the weather, high tide, landslide, especially the critical areas in order to raise people's awareness in protecting irrigation works and capacity in facing the landslide./.
