The Vietnamese team at World Mathematical Olympiad 2018
The Vietnamese team with 12 primary school students of Tran Dai Nghia High school for the Gifted in HCM City, include Nguyen Ngoc Khanh Linh who won the silver medal; Truong Quoc Cuong, Dinh Nhat Minh, Pham Ngoc Huyen and Lam Huu Hao who bagged bronze medals.
It is the third time that Vietnamese delegation attends the contest.
This year’s competition attracted 9 countries from the US, China, the United Kingdom, Canada, Korea, Thailand, Vietnam,Singapore and Mexico. The Korean delegation gained the first position in the competition.
The World Mathematical Olympiad (WMO) is the International Championship for Elementary and Middle School students aged 8-11 years old and is held annually in a different country. The first WMO was held in 2009 and has been organized in 30 cities in 10 countries around the world with the participation of thousands students.
WMO breaks the traditional format of math competitions by challenging contestants to apply innovative methods to solve problems using creativity, teamwork, and intuition. The competition integrates science, technology, engineering, and the liberal arts, inspiring students’ natural curiosity to connect with their world./.
