The delegation of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development surveyed the situation of vegetable production in Can Giuoc district
Numerous positive results
In recent years, the Agriculture sector has faced a lot of difficulties, especially drought and saltwater intrusion. Therefore, people need to promtly change technology and production methods to ensure crop productivity in order to develop stably and effectively. In particular, vegetables are one of the selected crops to apply advanced technology in production.
The director of Phuoc Hoa Safe Vegetable Cooperative (Can Duoc district) - Kieu Anh Dung said that farmers mainly produced vegetables using traditional methods in the past, cultivating varieties of vegetables with low productivity and quality. Thanks to the support and facilitation of all levels and sectors, in recent years, the cooperative has expanded the scale of production and developed more organic vegetables to meet the needs of the market.
"Currently, the main products of the cooperative are still leafy vegetables and hydroponic vegetables. Depending on the customer's needs, the cooperative will schedule production accordingly. For organic vegetable areas, all stages from sowing to harvesting are strictly controlled and self-contained to ensure optimal nutritional value and productivity. With the motto of producing safe organic vegetables, the cooperative does not use fertilizers and chemical substances but use microbiological fertilizers and pesticides of organic origin to ensure safety for crops and users" - Mr. Dung added.
The director of Muoi Hai Safe Vegetable Cooperative (Can Duoc district) - Le Van Giay shared: “Every day, the cooperative consumes about 1-2 tons of safe vegetables and 400-500 kilograms of organic vegetables on average. Currently, the cooperative has signed contracts for consuming safe products, providing clean food for several educational institutions, supermarkets, convenience stores, etc. in the province as well as Ho Chi Minh city. Thanks to the carefulness, thoughtfulness, and priority of product quality, the organic vegetable growing model of the cooperative has been widely known by business units and actively contacted to sign contracts for product consumption".
In recent years, Can Giuoc district has focused on agricultural development in the direction of agriculture, sustainability and food safety; developed the planned vegetable growing area in order to improve the quality and value of agricultural products. Up to now, the whole district has more than 1,700 hectares of vegetables, in which there are more than 1,130 hectares of hi-tech vegetables.
The head of the Agriculture and Rural Development Department of Can Giuoc district - Ngo Bao Quoc said: "In addition to encouraging building fully self-contained hi-tech vegetable growing models, the district has also mobilized farmers and cooperatives to apply partial technology such as economical irrigation; using new varieties with high productivity, high quality, resistance to pests and diseases, being able to adapt to climate change, in order to help people access and understand the benefits of advanced technology in vegetable production; thereby, helping to increase hi-tech vegetable production areas and increase income for farmers”.
It is necessary to be accompanied and supported
According to many vegetable farmers, the greatest difficulty in the process of applying advanced technology to production is the capital expenditure because a vast amount of capital is needed to invest in equipment, machinery, automatic watering systems, management systems via the internet, etc. Besides, natural disasters and weather also have a great impact on production.
The Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Duoc district - Dao Huu Tan said: “Applying high technology in vegetable production is an inevitable trend. According to the demand of the market, clean and safe vegetables are favored by consumers. To support models of hi-tech safe vegetable production in the local area, the District People's Committee has strengthened propaganda and mobilized people to join the cooperative and collaborative groups to develop specialized safe vegetable growing areas.
“Every year, the district organizes dredging of canals and irrigation ditches in the fields, clearing the flow to ensure irrigation and drainage for agricultural production. In addition, the district cooperates with relevant departments and sectors to open training courses on propagating the application of science and technology in farming, improving production levels in combination with ensuring environmental hygiene" - Mr. Tan added.
The deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development - Nguyen Chi Thien said: “Applying high technology in vegetable production in the province has initially created a source of clean agricultural products, ensuring food safety and hygiene and increasing competitiveness of the products in the market, contributing to promoting the successful implementation of the project on restructuring the Agricultural sector, aiming for raising added values and sustainable development.
In the coming time, in order to expand the area of hi-tech vegetables, the Department will continue to strengthen propaganda to raise people's awareness of hi-tech agricultural production; focus on raising funds for agricultural extension so as to support the construction and development of new advanced technology models. At the same time, the Department will connect and encourage businesses, cooperatives and collaborative groups to build production chains associated with product consumption, invest in building local vegetable processing facilities to improve economic efficiency and increase people's income”./.
