Hi-tech application in growing vegetables contributes to increase income for farmers

In recent years, Can Giuoc district has focused on developing agriculture in the hi-tech direction, sustainable and food safe; develop hi-tech vegetable growing areas according to planning in order to improve the quality and value of agricultural products. Up to now, the whole district has over 1,000 hectares of hi-tech vegetables in communes such as Phuoc Hau, Phuoc Ly, My Loc, Long Thuong, so on to bring high economic efficiency.
The head of the Division of Agriculture and Rural Development Department (ARD) of Can Giuoc district - Ngo Bao Quoc said: "Thanks to the focus on coordination between departments and branches in building collective labels for agricultural products, training on safe farming techniques, following VietGAP process for producing households, the district's vegetable products have gradually built a brand. Accordingly, farmers' income increased significantly. The district's agricultural products are widely consumed, contributing to socio-economic development as well as opening up opportunities to enrich many farmers.
In Can Duoc district, over the years, the vegetable area has been maintained stably over 600 hectares per crop; yield is estimated at nearly 16-18 tons per hectare, concentrated in 6 communes of Phuoc Van, Long Khe, Long Trach, Long Hoa, My Le, and Tan Trach. In which, Long Khe commune is considered the largest vegetable area of the district with over 160 hectares. This place mainly grows all kinds of vegetables such as lettuce, water spinach, cabbage, herbs, so on to supply to wholesale markets, traders inside and outside the district.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy (hamlet 4, Long Khe commune) has 0.4 hectare of vegetables, shared: "In the past, it was very difficult for people to travel and transport agricultural products, and water for irrigation was not enough for large-scale production, vegetables are partially damaged due to difficulty in transportation. Now, the transportation and consumption are much more convenient, the farmers applied high technology into production, so the productivity and quality of agricultural products are higher than before".

Focusing on building agricultural infrastructure
Chairman of Long Khe Commune People's Committee - Bui Thanh Sang said: "Transport works for producing and developing vegetable areas are always concerned by the commune and the district. Most of the roads have been widened to 4 meters, hardened and concreted to facilitate trade. Irrigation works in the field are also interested in investing, providing enough water for irrigation. Thereby, farmers strongly expanded the area of hi-tech vegetables, bringing economic efficiency. The average income per capita in 2020 of the commune reached over 57 million VND per year.
In Can Giuoc district, the construction of irrigation works and on-farm traffic works was also concerned by all levels and sectors. Thereby, farmers were assured to expand the scale of production. According to the head of the Division of Agriculture and Rural Development of Can Giuoc district - Ngo Bao Quoc, over the past time, the district's agriculture sector has closely coordinated with the Provincial Center for management and exploitation of irrigation works to operate the focal sluices to regulate water and discharge polluted water in the field to serve production and daily life; at the same time, regularly checked dikes and embankments in the district, protected irrigation works, combated high tides and salinity intrusion.
This year, the district continues to build irrigation works combined with rural transport for production, including 1 transitional work and 19 new projects with a total investment of over 9,100 billion VND. Most of the projects have completed 40-90 percent of the volume. Dang Van Tong (Phuoc Hau commune, Can Giuoc district) said: “In recent years, the local transport and irrigation system has been upgraded, people can travel and transport agricultural products more conveniently. Water source for production is also guaranteed. Farmers are very excited to expand farming areas, build net houses and install automatic irrigation systems to produce more efficiently.
The above results showed that the investment in upgrading infrastructure has been making an important contribution to modern agricultural development, applying scientific and technical advances to production and attracting enterprises to invest in the agricultural sector.
Deputy Director of the Department of ARD - Nguyen Chi Thien informed that the Agriculture sector would advise the province to continue mobilizing resources to invest in upgrading infrastructure for agricultural through promulgating and implementing to supporting policies development in the coming time, creating motivation for organizations, enterprises and individuals to invest in building infrastructure for agricultural development. At the same time, the department will coordinate with local authorities to integrate capital from poverty reduction, agricultural and rural development programs and mobilize resources from socialization to invest in upgrading infrastructure for agricultural and rural development./.
