Farmers busy taking care of Tet flowers

There is less than a month left until the Lunar New Year 2025. Currently, farmers in Long An province are busy taking care of flowers to serve the market.

These days in Thu Thua town, Thu Thua district, many farmers are actively taking care of, fertilizing, watering, and pruning chrysanthemums, marigolds, cockscombs, gerberas, etc so that the flowers can bloom beautifully, just in time for Tet.

Some farmers said that this year's weather is not as favorable as last year, with heavy rain, hot and cold air interspersed, affecting the flowers, making it difficult to bloom evenly.

Although farmers have sales contracts with traders for about 60% of the output, most of them said they have reduced the number of flowers compared to last year to limit the situation of unsold flowers.

In Can Duoc district, farmers in the upper region such as Long Hoa, Long Khe, Phuoc Van, etc are rushing to take care of Tet flowers.

Mr. Pham Hong Tan (Long Hoa Commune, Can Duoc District) is busy taking care of his family's marigold garden

Mr. Pham Hong Tan (Long Hoa Commune, Can Duoc District) grows more than 4,000 pots of marigolds of various sizes to meet the diverse needs of customers. To have the flowers blooming in time for Tet, Mr. Tan is meticulously taking care of them.

According to Mr. Tan, to have flowers in time for Tet, he must  follow the correct process from choosing flower varieties, suitable soil, care techniques and pruning the tops. Usually around the full moon of November (Lunar calendar), he sows the seeds, then about 20 days later, he plants them in pots.

After planting for half a month, he must pinch the tops so that the plants develop into many branches and when the flowers bud, he removes the small buds to concentrate on the large buds.

"This year, the weather has been quite rainy but in general, it is still favorable for growing flowers. Usually around December 23 (Lunar calendar), I start selling flowers, some of which to traders, the rest to flower markets in Binh Duong province, Ho Chi Minh City, etc. Thanks to the Tet flower crop, every year my family has tens of millions VND of profit to celebrate Tet" - Mr. Tan shared.

Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Long Hoa commune, Can Duoc district - Dao Hoang Ngo informed: "The whole commune currently has about 11 hectares of Tet flowers with many types such as chrysanthemums, cockscombs, marigolds, etc. Of which, the largest is marigolds with an area of about 10 hectares. In general, the flowers are growing well, with few diseases"./.
