Long An has 187 agricultural cooperatives operating effectively by 2020

Long An Department of Agriculture and Rural Development organized a conference to implement the provincial People's Committee's plan on cooperatives development on March 29. Representatives of departments, agencies, localities and some typical cooperatives in the province attended the conference.

By the end of 2018, Long An province had four Unions of agricultural cooperatives with a charter capital of nearly VND 4 billion, including 22 member cooperatives and 155 agricultural cooperatives, with a total charter capital of nearly VND 155 billion and more than 3,300 members. In which, there are 65 cooperatives participating in the implementation of high-tech agricultural application program.

Besides some achieved results, agricultural cooperatives in the province still face certain difficulties and limitations such as weak capacity, no working office, partly participation in high-tech applications, the output  product with an unstable consuming market, etc.

Implementing the Prime Minister’s Project "Development of 15,000 agricultural cooperatives and union of cooperatives operating effectively until 2020", Long An province set out the goal that there will have been 187 agricultural cooperatives operating effectively and at least 30 agricultural cooperatives apply high technology in the stages of cultivation, farming and preservation, aiming at bringing information technology into management and business of cooperatives by 2020.

In order to achieve this goal, the province continues to strengthen its weak and medium cooperatives and dissolve the cooperatives to terminate their operations for a long time, each locality builds 2 appropriate and high-tech agricultural cooperatives which are suitable and practically. Besides, the province continues to promote information and propaganda; perfect institutions, mechanisms and policies; continue training skills and training to improve the capacity and qualifications of managers; strengthen the construction of a pilot model of high-tech application and production as a basis for replication; support market access, product promotion and consumption; fully implement support policies to each specific cooperative.

Particularly, the agricultural sector will strengthen coordination of departments, agencies and localities to grasp and promptly solve difficulties and complete the plan.
