Supply of food and foodstuffs not to let be interrupted

From July 19, 2021, Long An implemented social distancing according to Directive 16-CT/TTg of the PM across the province to prevent and control the Covid-19 epidemic. In order to support people in this difficult period, many businesses in the province accompanies to implement the policy for stabilizing market prices to reduce difficulties for people.

Abundant rice supply, price stability

Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade - Chau Thi Le said that 5 enterprises in the province have participated in selling price-stabilized rice up to this point. This is a practical action of enterprises to support and accompany people during the complicated development of the Covid-19 epidemic.

Accordingly, the first enterprise participating in selling price-stabilized rice is Duong Vu Company (Thu Thua district). Duong Vu Company provides new rice 504 at the price of 9,000 VND per kilo, new rice 5451 at 10,000 VND per kilo. Duong Vu Company has 2 forms of sale: Retail at the headquarters of the People's Committee of Binh Thanh Commune of Thu Thua District; The company supports delivery to price-stabilized shops at localities in need. The company will deliver goods to unions and collectives that are fighting the epidemic such as armed forces, hospitals, field hospitals, concentrated isolation areas, blocked residential areas (delivered to the quarter or civil defense where they are isolated), companies apply the "3 on-site" production option.

The second enterprise participating in selling price-stabilized rice is Long An Construction – Mechanical and Food Engineering Joint Stock Company (Ward 5, Tan An City). Accordingly, the company will sell rice at retail shop at No. 29 Nguyen Thi Bay, Ward 6, Tan An City. Each person will be able to buy rice once for 10 kilos. The type of rice IR-50404 is sold with the price of 9,000 VND per kilo. The application period for selling rice is from July 20, 2021 until further notice.

After Long An Construction - Mechanical and Food Joint Stock Company, Long An Food Company, Khanh Tam Company and Tan Dong Tien Joint Stock Company also participated in selling price-stabilized rice. Currently, businesses participate in selling price-stabilized rice at an average of 9,000-9,500 VND per kilo with normal rice and fragrant rice from 11,000-12,000 VND per kilo, lower than the previous price that businesses sold on the market from 3,000-4,000 VND per kilo. With the current selling price, it will help people reduce difficulties at this time. 

The Department of Industry and Trade (DoIT) is continuing to mobilize more enterprises producing, trading and exporting rice in the province to participate in selling price-stabilized rice in order to alleviate the difficulties of people affected by the Covid-19 epidemic. The fact that enterprises sell price-stabilized rice at this time helps to limit the shortage of goods and increase prices. Currently, rice businesses are committed to providing price-stabilized rice until the epidemic is controlled and people's lives return to normal.

Mr. Ngo Thanh Tong (An Hoa 1 hamlet, Binh An commune, Thu Thua district) is one of the buyers of rice at a stable price from Duong Vu Company as soon as it opens for sale. According to Mr. Tong, the epidemic is quite complicated, with increasing cases, causing the provincial government to tighten epidemic prevention measures, a part of people has difficulty due to job loss. Businesses selling price-stabilized rice at this time help people reduce costs in spending on daily meals. 

No shortage of vegetables, tubers and fruits

Immediately after the provincial authority applied Directive 16-CT/TTg of the PM to implement the prevention and control of the Covid-19 epidemic, the traditional market was temporarily closed, the supply of vegetables, tubers and fruits decreased, causing some commodity prices skyrocketed. Facing these difficulties, the DoIT and local authorities quickly found solutions to provide vegetables, tubers and fruits to the people in the fastest way.

Nguyen Thi Thu Hong, Head of Economic and Infrastructure Division of Thanh Hoa District shared that the Economic and Infrastructure Division cooperated with San Ha Co., Ltd. to supply essential goods such as pork, chicken, duck, eggs, vegetables, tubers, fruits, and so on in the past few days, with the support of the DoIT.

Accordingly, the Economic and Infrastructure Division provides the phone number of its staff, people can order by phone or text message. When buying goods, people can pay cash or pay via bank accounts. The delivery team is a requisitioned force of teachers.

When people order the goods, the staff will quickly prepare it, hand it over to the delivery force and people can receive it within 20-40 minutes, depending on whether the distance far or near the goods-gathering place. Delivery methods are very diverse, including door-to-door delivery for organizations and individuals; medical isolation areas, concentrated isolation facilities, kitchens serving field hospitals. With this form of supply, on average, Thanh Hoa district provides 5-6 tons of goods per day.

Previously, My Thanh Agricultural Cooperative (Thu Thua district) organized for members of the cooperative and associate members to buy and sell fruits and vegetables on average from 5-8 tons every day. At this time, in order to promptly supply vegetables, tubers and fruits to serve consumers' daily meals, the cooperative increased its purchasing and preliminary processing capacity to 300 percent. Chairman of the Board of Directors, Director of My Thanh Agricultural Cooperative - Nguyen Quoc Cuong said that the cooperative averagely prepares 20 tons of vegetables and tubers every day to serve the market in the province, Ho Chi Minh City and some neighboring provinces.

Vegetables, tubers and fruits of the cooperative are distributed through collective kitchens, Co.opmart system, and convenience stores. In order to be able to supply enough vegetables for the market, the cooperative not only buys the amount of vegetables associated with the cooperative but also promotes the purchasing support of farmers growing in remote or isolated areas that cannot sell goods.

Facing the increasing demand for vegetables when the traditional market was temporarily suspended, the cooperative continued to open a vegetable selling place in Thu Thua town (next to the Thu Thua Trade Center) with support from the People's Committee of Thu Thua district from July 20, 2021. Mr. Nguyen Quoc Cuong said that 26 types of vegetables are sold here at very stable prices, many of them are priced lower than that at the supermarket about 10,000 VND per kilo. On the first day of opening for sale, the cooperative provided over 2.5 tons of vegetables of all kinds. The cooperative tries to maintain and keep stable prices to support people in difficult time.

Deputy Director of the DoIT - Chau Thi Le said that, in order to promptly meet the shopping needs of essential goods, food and foodstuff for people when implementing social distancing, the DoIT asked the large-scale goods-supplying enterprises in the province such as Co.opmart, Bach Hoa Xanh, San Ha, Vinmart, Vinmart+, some cooperatives to have business activities to increase the supply of food and foodstuff products, ensuring food safety to serve the needs of the people.

However, the supply has certain difficulties but at this time, it basically meets the consumption needs of people in the area. The DoIT requested the units to commit to continuously replenish sources of goods as well as keeping price-stabled commodity. An increasing prices only for reasonable expenses incurred due to the complicated situation of the epidemic and difficult circulation of goods.

To control prices, the DoIT works with suppliers and these units have committed to keeping prices stable. The Department will inspect the distribution of goods by units throughout the province. Particularly for small traders, small and retail traders, the Department suggested localities to strengthen inspection and detect cases of taking advantage of the epidemic situation to increase prices unreasonably for benefit to be handled according to the laws./.
