Tan An City was established under Resolution No. 38, dated August 24, 2009 of the Government. The city is the political, administrative, economic, cultural, scientific and technical center of the province; recognized by the Prime Minister as a type II urban area in 2019 and completed the task of building new rural areas in 2020.
Tan An City is considered one of the satellite cities of Ho Chi Minh City and the gateway city of the Mekong Delta, an important traffic hub connecting the provinces of the Southwest with the Southeast; has an important and strategic position in terms of national defense and security, a place with potential for economic and urban development of the province.

Contributing to the construction of the city meeting the civilized urban standards, the youth of Tan An City have many meaningful activities and works.
