Transport Ministry prepares for booming travel demand in Tet holiday

Head of Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam Dinh Viet Thang said that airlines will supplement 32 new aircrafts to hike transport capacity by 20 percent from now until the Tet holiday, taking the total number to over 180 aircrafts.

Airlines have registered to increase an extra of 5,800 flights equivalent to 1.1 million seats during peak time. That includes 2,000 flights from national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines and 3,500 flights from low cost carrier Vietjet.

Vietnam Railway Corporation has announced to add 30 trains in North-South route and tens of trains in other routes to serve residents.

Aside from Tet travel matter, Minister Nguyen Van The asked relevant agencies to amend Circular 35 stipulating the same toll collection level for all traffic works including roads and tunnels while investment in tunnels is much larger than that in roads.

The ministry has required the circular's adjustment since 2017 but it has not been done. That has caused difficulties for some tunnel projects because revenue has been much lower than financial plan.
