On February 19, Vice Chairman of Long An Provincial People's Committee - Nguyen Minh Lam and leaders of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of the province checked the reality in some localities on implementing the measures to prevent and control drought, lack of water, saline water intrusion to serve agricultural production and people's livelihood in the dry season 2021.

The delegation checked the construction and operation of the irrigation and salinity-preventing system at Chau Phe and Rach Chanh sluice (Tan An city), Nhut Tao sluice (Tan Tru district), Cay Gao 1 sluice, Rach Dao (Thu Thua district) and Ba Hai Mang canal, Bun Ba Cua canal, Canal 1 (Thanh Hoa district).
Due to the drought, saline intrusion in the province takes place in the system of two rivers of Vam Co Dong and Vam Co Tay, when salinity occurs in phases during high tides, irrigation works (culverts) along 2 rivers has been closed early, the ability to take additional fresh water is very limited.

Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee - Nguyen Minh Lam said that Long An had actively introduced structural and non-structural solutions, so far it has still guaranteed to have water for production and people's livelihood in the province. However, the Provincial People's Committee also instructed the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to continue coordinating with localities to regularly check salinity, enhance forecasting on rivers, and promote propaganda for the people to join hands to prevent and control drought and salinity./.
