Vietnamese students at the 2019 Asian Physics Olympiad
With the medal haul, Vietnam ranked fifth in the medal tally at the annual physics event for high school students in the region.
Two silver medals were won by Trinh Duy Hieu and Nguyen Xuan Ung, two twelfth graders from Bac Giang province’s High School for Gifted Students and High School for Gifted Students under the Hanoi University of Science, respectively.
Five bronze medallists included Le Viet Hoang from Ha Nam province, Nguyen Khanh Linh from Thanh Hoa, Le Cong Minh Hieu from Thua Thien – Hue province, plus duo Nguyen Xuan Tan and Tran Xuan Tung and from Hanoi.
Le Quang Huy, from Bien Hoa High School for Gifted Students in Ha Nam province, was awarded a certificate of merit from the organising board.
The 2019 Asian Physics Olympiad was held in Adelaide, Australia, from May 5-13 with 165 contestants from 22 countries and territories participating.
The competition involves two 5-hour long exams of university standard, one theory and one practical. Each country sends a team of eight competitors.
The event aims to help students boost self-esteem and forge long lasting relationships and networks all over the world while increasing their critical thinking and problem-solving skills centre stage./.
