Ho Chi Minh City authorities held a meeting on February 6 with overseas Vietnamese who have returned home to welcome the Lunar New Year festival (Tet).

At the meeting, Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong briefed the overseas Vietnamese on the city’s socio-economic achievements and hailed their contributions to the southern hub by conducting business, transferring technologies, and making recommendations to Ho Chi Minh City.

He called on the overseas Vietnamese to continue to uphold their patriotism, as they build bridges between Vietnam and other countries worldwide, and work together to transform Ho Chi Minh City into an exemplary modern and civilised city.

On the occasion, the municipal People’s Committee also presented certificates of merit to 13 individuals and five collectives for their achievements in 2017.

Also on February 6, the Embassy of Vietnam in Bangladesh was making careful preparations for its New Year celebrations, bringing herbs and ingredients for traditional dishes from Vietnam to give the overseas Vietnamese a taste from home.

Vietnamese communities across the Czech Republic are holding celebrations throughout the early half of February, usually at weekends when they have more time to celebrate the occasion.

On February 4, crowds of Vietnamese expats in the Macau Special Administrative Region of China also gathered for a Tet celebration. The region is home to over 20,000 Vietnamese workers./.
