Economic development creating momentum for the future

50 years after the country's reunification, nearly 40 years of implementing the renovation process, with a rich revolutionary tradition and a spirit of solidarity, self-reliance, dynamism and creativity, Long An is taking steady steps on the path to becoming a fairly developed province in the Southern Key Economic Zone of the country.

Bright spot in economic recovery and development

During the resistance war against the US to save the country, with its strategic position, Long An province was an important locality, suffering many losses and pains. The 8 golden words "Bravery, resilience, the whole people fighting the enemy" awarded by the Central Government not only crystallized patriotism but also became a symbol, a great pride, motivating and encouraging the entire Party, the whole people, the whole army in the cause of innovation, building and defending the Fatherland.

Through each historical period, with creative and breakthrough decisions, Long An used to be a pioneer in the innovation with the price - salary - money mechanism, boldly advancing to exploit the Dong Thap Muoi region, and now continues to become a bright spot in economic development. Investment attraction mechanisms and policies, administrative procedure reform, improvement of the Provincial Competitiveness Index (PCI) and strategic vision in investing in transport infrastructure, urban areas, and industrial development have brought Long An to become a fairly developed province in the Southern Key Economic Zone.

According to the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee - Nguyen Van Ut, in 2024, the socio-economic situation recovered clearly, achieving the overall set goals with many important and comprehensive results in all fields. In particular, the province completed and exceeded 21/21 main targets. The GRDP growth rate increased by 8.3%, ranking 21st in the country and 3rd in the Mekong Delta. This is also the first time that the state budget revenue in the province reached more than 26,500 billion VND. The average GRDP reached over 107 million VND/person/year.

Along with flexible and creative economic management and drastic implementation of solutions, removing difficulties for enterprises, improving the investment environment, Long An's important indicators have increased strongly such as PCI rising to 2nd place, PAR Index ranked 8th, PGI ranked 12th, contributing to the province entering the top 10 localities nationwide in attracting large enterprises in 2024. By the end of the first quarter of 2025, the province has 2,278 DDI projects with registered capital of more than 510,000 billion VND and 1,409 FDI projects with registered investment capital of 12,783.6 million USD.

Along with that, the fields of culture - society, national defense - security, Party building and government have all achieved positive results, creating new development steps, helping the province maintain its leading position in the Mekong Delta, gradually rising to become a fairly good province in the southern region, as the goal of the 11th Provincial Party Congress has set out.

Creating development momentum in the new era

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Ut, the achievements in socio-economic development are the result of a long preparation process, building the foundation from previous years. The efforts and synchronous solutions have helped the province become a bright spot in attracting investment, especially attracting large investors. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification, the Provincial People's Committee coordinated with investors to start, inaugurate and break ground on 5 large and important projects with a total capital of nearly 30,000 billion VND. This is a testament to the province's efforts in attracting investment and developing socio-economic development.

The year 2025 is of special significance, the year of finishing the 5-year socio-economic development plan 2021-2025, the Resolution of the 11th Provincial Party Congress, the 13th National Party Congress and preparing and consolidating the fundamental factors, creating a premise for the province and the whole country to enter a new era - the era of national prosperity. In particular, the province strives to set a double-digit growth target of 10-11%. The province continues to promote the spirit of solidarity, responsibility, dynamism, creativity, innovation in thinking, working style, always "considering people and enterprises as the center of service, enterprises as resources and the driving force for development".

At the same time, the province innovates in leadership, management, organization, and implementation of a streamlined, effective and efficient apparatus; linking economic restructuring with innovation of growth models in a more synchronous, comprehensive and substantial manner in all economic sectors, mobilizing and effectively using resources, promoting growth in dynamic regions and economic corridors of the province. “To achieve double-digit growth rate in 2025, creating a foundation for the following years, in addition to socio-economic management, the Provincial People's Committee also focuses on mobilizing resources, especially resources from outside, the private economic sector into the province's economy. The Provincial People's Committee has prepared very carefully, in recent years, it has continuously allocated resources to invest in a synchronous transport system to the fields of planning, developing logistics networks and industrial parks, clusters, urban residential areas, etc.

Coming to Long An, investors will enjoy open preferential policies, support in site clearance, and administrative procedures. There are many projects that the Provincial People's Committee considers and approves investment policies within 1 day. In the policies to encourage investors, the province plans key regions and areas to have preferential and incentive policies to motivate investors to come to Long An. Projects implemented in the province in recent times have contributed to the province's socio-economic development. In the coming time, with support policies, the province hopes to continue to attract large investors to create development momentum in the new era" - Mr. Nguyen Van Ut said./.
