After 20 years of growing vegetables, about 6 years ago, Mr. Huynh Kim Cong (Thuan Tay 1 Hamlet, Thuan Thanh Commune) boldly invested more than 130 million VND to build a greenhouse and install an automatic irrigation system to grow vegetables in the direction of high technology.
Mr. Cong shared that vegetables grown in greenhouses are less affected by the weather. Although the initial investment to build a greenhouse is relatively large, after a short time of application, the model brings higher efficiency than the traditional way of growing vegetables.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Can Giuoc district, the entire district has a rotational vegetable growing area ranging from 1,400-1,700 hectares, concentrated in the upper communes. The structure includes vegetables and spices with 34 types. Currently, there are 3,988 households growing vegetables in the district, of which 3,685 households grow high technology vegetables with an area of 1,340 hectares. The average yield is from 20-22 tons/hectare/crop, the average output is about 138,800 tons/year. In the lower communes of the district, people mainly raise brackish water shrimp with a cumulative annual farming area of about 2,000 hectares; currently there are 537.2 hectares of high technology shrimp farming. Vegetable and shrimp products are mainly consumed in the district and Ho Chi Minh City.
Farmers in Can Giuoc district apply high technology to shrimp farming
Applying high technology in agricultural production has initially changed in farmers' awareness and farming practices, raised awareness of using organic fertilizers, organic microorganisms, biological pesticides, greenhouses and net houses. The products are of better quality and accepted by the market, especially the market segment with high added value.
The application of high technology and technical solutions in production not only reduces labor and costs, but also improves the quality of agricultural products, increases production value on the same cultivated area, bringing higher economic efficiency than traditional production methods./.
