In 2030, Vietnam strives to be 'among the top 10 countries in the world' in agro-forestry and aquatic product processing

On February 21, Prime Minister - Nguyen Xuan Phuc chaired a national online conference on "Promoting the development of agricultural product processing industry and agricultural mechanization". Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee - Pham Van Canh chaired at Long An end-point bridge.

Long An has many enterprises that have combined consumption and processing

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in the past 10 years, Vietnam's agro-forestry-fishery processing industry has made significant progress; value-added growth rate is about 5-7 percent per year; agricultural export turnover has increased sharply with an average increase of 8-10 percent per year (in 2019, export turnover reached 41.3 billion USD). Currently, many localities have formed and developed an agricultural processing industry system with a designed capacity of about 120 million tons of agricultural raw materials per year, with over 7,500 industrial enterprises associated with exports.

At the conference, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development set the goal of Vietnam's agro-forestry-fishery processing industry "to be among the top 10 countries in the world" by 2030, to be a global center for deep processing and logistics of agricultural products with sufficient processing capacity to meet the requirements of agricultural production. Thereby, the growth rate of value of deeply processed agricultural products reaches 7-8 percent per year; the proportion of the output of deeply processed and high value-added products of the branches reaches 30 percent or more; more than 50 percent of key export agricultural product processing facilities reach advanced production technology level.

Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee - Pham Van Canh gives a speech at Long An end-point bridge

In Long An province, over the past time, promoting the development of agro-forestry-fishery processing industry and agricultural mechanization for restructuring the agricultural sector has played an important role in developing and attracting investment in agriculture and rural areas. Currently, the whole province has about 208 processing and milling enterprises, in which, rice processing accounts for the majority with 115 enterprises and establishments.

According to Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee - Pham Van Canh, currently, the enterprises have many difficulties in accessing mechanisms and policies because the procedures are still complicated. He proposed the Government to direct the review, evaluation and implementation of policies to create favorable conditions for the enterprises.

Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development - Nguyen Xuan Cuong highly appreciated the achievements of Long An province in recent years. According to him, Long An effectively implemented the project of restructuring agriculture and converting more than 5,000 hectares of rice land into crops with high economic efficiency; the province has many enterprises that have combined consumption and processing. In the coming time, the province should promote its advantages to promote local economic development.

Prime Minister - Nguyen Xuan Phuc emphasized: “Vietnam's agriculture has great potential. Therefore, local authorities should listen to solve difficulties; create conditions for the enterprises, cooperatives and farmers to develop. At the same time, localities should strengthen the application of science and technology in production and the training of quality human resources; have policies to reduce product costs and shipping costs; encourage enterprises and cooperatives to build brands in order to improve product quality and towards planning large-scale material areas, promote international economic integration and market development."./.
