Long Khot has a favorable position in arranging the defense and attack strategies of our troops, which is the leading strategic key site on the border corridor. Therefore, in the war against the US Army and the war to protect the southwest border, Long Khot area was a fierce battlefield.

During that period, many fightings took place in this area, which had 3 typical battles. In particular, the attack on Long Khot Sub-area (from June 9 to 16, 1972), in this battle, the Regiment 174 coordinated the Regiments 1 and 3 as well as the guerrilla of Thai Binh Trung commune to kill many enemies, destroyed many war vehicles and shot down 2 enemy’s aircrafts.

The large-scale attack on Long Khot Sub-area took place from the night of April 28 to 29, 1974. The Regiment 174 coordinated the Regiments 1 and 3 under the Division 5 to destroy and kill the Long Khot Sub-area, eliminate the battle of many enemies, collect 69 guns, shootdown 3 aircrafts and destroy the entire defenses of enemy in Long Khot.

A heroic battle lasting 43 days and nights (from January 14 to February 27, 1978) to protect Long Khot Border Guard Area of the armed forces of the People's Police of Long An province and the local army and people, completely defeating the enemy’s conspiracy, this defeated 21 enemy’s attacks, organized 28 battles, killed many enemies and wounded dozens.

In order to achieve these resounding victories, officers and soldiers of the Division 5, the army and the local people endured many sacrifices and hardships. More than 1,100 cadres and soldiers died and remained forever in the love and deep gratitude of the Party Committee, authorities and people of Long An.

In commemoration of the heroic martyr who fell on the Long Khot battlefield, from 2000 to the present, every year on May 19, July 27, December 22, or the National Traditional New Year, the Communist Party, the government and the local people along with the Liaison Committee for Veterans of Regiment 174, veterans and martyrs' relatives gathered here to offer incense, celebrate death anniversaries and organize memorial and gratitude activities.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee - Pham Tan Hoa emphasized that the heroes and martyrs devoted their youth to fight and sacrifice for their homeland of Long An, for independence and freedom of the Fatherland. In the coming time, he asked the relevant agencies, Vinh Hung district to seriously implement the provisions of the Law on Cultural Heritage to protect and promote the value of relic; organize and implement the mobilization of resources effectively and reasonably to build the works for restoration, embellishment and promotion of the relic.

Advising the provincial People's Committee to propose the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to early appraise and approve the relic planning documents, allocate fund for building the items according to the approved planning. It needs to strengthen propaganda and education for the people, especially the young generations in various forms of the revolutionary struggle tradition of heroes, martyrs, etc.

On this occasion, the People's Committee of Vinh Hung district announced the decision to set up a Management Board of Long Khot Border Guard Area Historical Relic in Thai Binh Trung commune, Vinh Hung district./.
