Long An: Participants expanded in pilot controlled F0 treatment with Molnupiravir

Over the past time, the pilot program for the controlled treatment of Covid-19 cases with the Molnupiravir drug in Long An province has only been implemented at field hospitals. Therefore, Long An Department of Health has issued Document 7650/SYT-NV to extend treatment with this drug to asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic patients who, if eligible, can be isolated and treated at home recently.

Accordingly, the Department of Health directs Health Centers of districts, town and city to appoint at least 1 pharmacy officer to act as the focal site to receive, manage and dispense Molnupiravir drug for treatment at home in the area; At least 1 officer entered input data, reported a program of controlled treatment of Covid-19 cases with the Molnupiravir drug daily.

Eligibility criteria are patients with positive PCR test results within 4 days; patients aged 18 or older; commit to agree to participate in the program in writing paper; There is a decision of the Chairman of the commune-level People's Committee approving the isolation and treatment at home.

With the process of dispensing drugs to patients, commune health stations (including mobile medical stations) will make a list of eligible patients to participate in the program, perform screening tests, make medical records of patients who are not eligible for the program in case of agreeing to commit to participate in the program. Next, the commune health station or mobile health station contact the health center to receive a sufficient number of drugs to treat the patient according to the list (each patient will receive 40 tablets of Molnupiravir 200mg, taken twice a day, each 4 tablets, taken continuously for 5 days), directly dispensing drugs, instructing patients to use drugs and contacting daily to record adverse events if any within 14 days and report to the Medical Center district.

Then, the Medical Center daily enters data into online software, periodically reports and stores medical records, supports the Health Station in the process of implementing the program. Patients will be sampled for PCR testing right after the end of 5 days of treatment (the next day after the patient has finished taking the medicine).

Because this drug is still in the research process and has not been licensed, the management of research drugs needs to be strictly implemented from the stage of receipt, storage, and distribution to the units participating in the program implementation, monitoring the use and withdrawal of drugs in case the patient does not use them all for any reason, so on to avoid loss or misuse for research purposes./.
