Delegates at the forum

In the forum's yearbook, Prime Minister - Pham Minh Chinh's opinions are introduced on the development direction of the Mekong Delta region. On June 18, 2022, Prime Minister - Pham Minh Chinh signed Resolution No. 78 promulgating the Government's Action Plan to implement Resolution No, dated April 2, 2022 on the direction of socio-economic development, ensuring national defense and security in the Mekong Delta region until 2030, with a vision to 2045.

The Mekong Delta is an area with a very important position and has many potentials and advantages for development. Therefore, the target of this region by 2030 is that the average growth rate in the period 2021 - 2030 must reach about 6.5 - 7% per year. This is an important basis for the birth of new mechanisms and policies to exploit and promote to the fullest extent potentials and advantages for the rapid and sustainable development of the whole region and of localities in the region in the coming time.

In a recent meeting with ministries, branches and localities in Can Tho City, Prime Minister - Pham Minh Chinh stated that the recent National Party Congresses have identified infrastructure development as one of the three strategic breakthrough. The Resolution of the 13th Party Congress sets a target that by 2025, the whole country will have 3,000km of highways and at least 5,000km of highways by 2030.

Accordingly, the government will devote relatively large resources to the highway system and other forms of traffic in the Mekong Delta, determined to change the transportation system in the West in this term, especially the expressway, seaports and inland waterways.

Breakthroughs in transport infrastructure and human resources will help the Mekong Delta develop stronger in the coming time. In addition, the promotion of transport infrastructure projects also helps promote disbursement of public investment, one of the driving forces for the country's socio-economic recovery and development.

According to the road network planning period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050 approved by the Prime Minister in 2021, the Mekong Delta region will have 6 expressways with a total length of about 1,166km, including 3 longitudinal axis with a total length of 575km and 3 transverse highways with a length of about 591km.

Up to now, phase 1 has been completed and put into operation with a total length of 171km (of which 80km is being continued to be invested to meet expressway standards). Currently, there are 8 constructing and waiting for investment procedures projects, ensuring that they are basically completed in the medium term period 2021 - 2025, and all projects are put into operation in 2026 with a total length of 463km and total investment of about 94,400 billion VND.

Thus, it is expected that by 2026, the Mekong Delta will have about 554km of highways. The remaining highways will be invested in the period 2026 - 2030.

At the forum, Long An was highly appreciated for attracting investment and still has plenty of room to invest in building infrastructure for economic development. Long An's goal is to become the industrial development province of the southern region. The total area planned for industrial development is 15,000 hectares, with 37 industrial parks and 59 industrial clusters approved.

Long An is always interested in creating a friendly, efficient and safe business investment environment. In particular, provincial leaders always create favorable conditions, regularly dialogue and accompany investors during the process of researching and implementing projects and production and business activities in the province./.
