NA Chairman meets OVs in Australia

National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue on December 1 met staff of the Vietnamese Embassy and more than 70 overseas Vietnamese (OVs) in Canberra, New South Wales and South Australia, and intellectuals and Vietnamese students in Australia, as part of his official visit to the country.

During the meeting, the leader said his visit to Australia aims to promote the bilateral strategic partnership to a new height.

Ambassador Nguyen Tat Thanh highlighted the fruitful development of the political and diplomatic ties between the two countries, saying that the bilateral relations has recorded breakthroughs with many agreements signed.

The number of Vietnamese students studying in Australia has increased, and partnerships between universities of Vietnam and Australia been established, Thanh noted. 

Huynh Tan Dat, President of the Vietnamese Students Association in Australia, revealed a plan to organise cultural events towards the 50th founding anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Australia in 2023.

On behalf of the Party and State, NA Chairman Hue praised efforts by the Vietnamese associations to help one another and enhance connection in the host country, and their contributions to the homeland, especially when Vietnam faces difficulties caused by natural disasters and epidemics.

He also commended staff of the embassy for their great contributions to the developing relationship between the two countries and expressed his hope that OVs in Australia will always promote the spirit of solidarity, comply with the laws of the host country, and make more  contributions to the homeland’s development./.
