Preventing and controlling African swine fever actively

African swine fever (ASF) appears in over 20 provinces and cities nationwide in the first 4 months of 2019, over 85,000 pigs were destroyed. The epidemic is complicated, causing the pork price to continuously fluctuate over the past time. Currently, some northern provinces announced that the epidemic ended. However, ASF appears in Dong Nai and Binh Phuoc provinces now.

Facing this situation, the work of disease prevention and control need to be concentrated, it is not subjective and neglected. According to Deputy Director of Long An Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development - Dinh Thi Phuong Khanh, there are 27 pig slaughterhouses in the whole province, of which 8 ones providing pork to Ho Chi Minh City are in Ben Luc, Duc Hoa and Tan Tru districts, with a capacity of 300-1,000 pigs per night, accounting for over 80 percent of the killed pigs, over 90 percent of pigs are raised in the provinces of Dong Nai, Binh Phuoc, Binh Duong, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, etc. and 19 consumption places in the province, with a capacity of 10-100 pigs per night.

In the context of ASF widespread, Long An provincial People's Committee issued Directive 06/CT-UBND on synchronously implementing urgent solutions for preventing and controlling ASF, approving the Emergency Response Action Plan with ASF; establishing a steering committee, rapid response team, mobile inspection team at provincial and district levels; strongly promoting propaganda; establishing 8 temporary quarantine stations; setting up hotline for receiving information; issuing a temporary Regulation on quarantine and confirmation of information about pig origin and pork products when they are transported in the province.

For functional sectors, they coordinate localities to closely monitor epidemic situation; strengthen to inspect and supervise at slaughterhouses and pig collection stations; closely monitor the pig origin entering the province (daily updated); set up professional inspection teams; guide slaughterhouses and pig collection stations to daily poison and disinfect facilities and all means of transport./.
