Prevention and control of Covid-19 epidemic speeded up in coming Tet

Minister of Health - Nguyen Thanh Long requests the localities need to drastically prevent epidemics at the year-end period, considering this activity as the top period for people to safely celebrate Tet

According to information from the Department of Preventive Medicine, the world has presently recorded over 78 million cases of Covid-19; 1.7 million people died in 220 countries and territories.

In Vietnam, as of December 22, there were 1,414 cases of Covid-19 recorded, 35 deaths. There were no new cases recorded in the community for 20 consecutive days. Vietnam continues to carry out flights to rescue citizens to return home, each week still records from 10-16 positive cases; maintain quarantine of about 16,000 people.

In Long An, as of December 23, no case of Covid-19 has been reported. Currently, 20 people are quarantined in a concentrated quarantine facility, and 52 experts are in concentrated isolation at the hotel.

Currently, the epidemic situation is still complicated in the world, increasing strongly in some Asian countries and European countries. Many countries have blocked off and increased the measures to prevent and fight against the epidemic more strongly.

Vietnam basically controlled the Covid-19 epidemics well. However, the risk of epidemics entering and spreading into our country is always permanent. The Christmas, New Year and Lunar New Year is coming, so the citizens has a huge demand for travelling and coming back their homeland, so the risk of recording Covid-19 cases is always existing.

At the conference, Minister of Health - Nguyen Thanh Long asked to strengthen strict management of people entering, including legal and illegal entry, especially border provinces. Local authorities need to be more aggressive in quarantine management; It is necessary to pay attention to investing and strengthening laboratory capacity to detect cases early.

At the same time, it is necessary to prepare carefully for bad situations, plan and prepare to take testing samples widely, and ensure Covid-19 treatment facility in the case of an increase in patients.

Especially, localities need to drastically prevent epidemics at the end of the year, they should  consider this activity as the top period for people to safely welcome Tet. The whole country should continue to mobilize the community to prevent and fight epidemics, recommend people to implement the 5K message: Keep wearing face masks – Keep disinfection – Keep distance – Keep satying out of crowds – Keep medical notification. This will be a top priority for effective prevention and control of epidemics./.
