Battalion 263 was established in November 1963 at Thanh Phong commune, Thanh Phu district, Ben Tre province on the basis of Company 295 of Military Region 8, one infantry company of Ben Tre province, one infantry company of Tien Giang province and one infantry company of Long An province and many other additional forces.

In 1972, Battalion 263 changed its name to Battalion 7. After the unification of the country, the 7th Battalion merged with the 6th Battalion to both protect the Fatherland and do business, reclaim land. In the Southwest Border War, the 7th Battalion participated in protecting the border, helping your country destroy and sweep away the remnants of the Pol Pot army.

Battalion 263 has made many resounding victories throughout the process of building, fighting and growing up.

On May 3, 1968, after returning from the battlefield, the Battalion was on its way to the base when it stopped at Go Tram Bau area, Cau Van area, An Luc Long commune of Chau Thanh district.

When the enemy discovered, they concentrated their firepower, planes, and tanks to sweep the battalion's garrison area. In the position of disparity in force and weaponry, the Battalion's officers and soldiers fought bravely to the last bullet.

More than 100 officers and soldiers of the Battalion died in the battle against the air force on May 3, 1968. That heroic and indomitable spirit is forever a lesson in patriotism and bravery for the next generation.

After April 30, 1975, the remains of the martyrs are gathered to the Martyrs Cemetery in Chau Thanh district - Tan Tru.

At the site of the battle and sacrifice in the past of the officers and soldiers of Battalion 263, every year, the people and local authorities hold the martyr's death anniversary. With funding from socialization, the memorial area for officers and soldiers of Battalion 263 was spaciously built with items including temples, wind graves, souvenir houses, etc. with a total area of over 6,000 square meters. Total construction cost is over 20 billion VND.

The memorial area has been classified as a provincial historical - cultural relic by the Provincial People's Committee.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee – Pham Tan Hoa thanked the central leadership for the deep concern, the material and spiritual contributions of the people, the sponsors for the construction of the temple. Martyrs died in the battle against the invaders on May 3, 1968 at Cau Van.

He asked the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to develop rules and regulations on the protection of relics so that the memorial area becomes a red address for patriotic traditional education and propaganda for the younger generation.

In addition, the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee asked the branches to continue to coordinate in collecting and verifying the identities of the martyrs who died at Cau Van, and put them on the list of registrations at the temple so that the next generation will forever remember the work.
