Lots of potentials and advantages

The district has a great advantage in traffic connection, being the gateway to connect Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta region through the water-land transportation system: National Highway 50, water transportation system from the East Sea through the Soai Rap estuary to Can Giuoc river, spreading and connecting the tributaries of southern provinces.

According to Chairman of People's Committee of Can Giuoc district - Nguyen Anh Duc, in recent years, with the attention of Central Committee, the province, the Party Committee, the government and the people of Can Giuoc district have focused on exploiting all potentials and advantages for development in the direction of "industry - urban - service and agriculture". The district maintains an average economic growth rate of 11.87% per year.

The economic structure has shifted in a positive direction, increasing the proportion of industry, construction and services. This is a favorable condition for the process of transformation and urban-industrial formation of the district in the future.

Can Giuoc district is attracting investment, developing industry, creating jobs for many workers

Identified as a key economic region of the province, over the past time, the district has been created favorable conditions to attract investment. Up to now, Can Giuoc has been approved by the Prime Minister and the Provincial People's Committee with policies and decisions to invest in 87 industrial, residential, resettlement, commercial and service projects, cemeteries, etc with an area of 5,737 hectares. Currently, there are 8 industrial zones and clusters have been completed and put into operation. Enterprises operating in the district are mainly in logistics, mechanical engineering; goods, pharmaceutical, medical; food, construction materials,etc, thereby, creating jobs for over 60,000 laborers.

The development of industry leads to the formation of new and diversified types of trade and services with the increase in service quality. The whole district has over 5,000 individual business households; 22 supermarkets, convenience stores,etc, meeting the shopping needs of people. Technical infrastructure, social infrastructure are synchronously developing. In the period of 2021-2022, the district mobilized over 679 billion VND to build infrastructure. In which, there are some typical works: Provincial road 830, 826C, 826E, 835; Tan Tap - Long Hau street; Rach Van Bridge; Can Giuoc Bridge; upgrading and expanding the drainage system, sidewalks of Highway 50 bypass, sidewalks of Nguyen Thai Binh street; upgrading traffic routes connecting with Ho Chi Minh City, connecting the upper and lower regions of the district;etc.

In addition, according to the planning orientation, the district will form two new arterial traffic routes: Provincial road 827E (National Highway 50B), Provincial road 830E connecting the inter-region in the North - South and East - West direction. In particular, Long An International Port has been put into operation, making an important contribution to enhancing traffic connectivity between localities in the region and inter-region.

City of the future

The general planning task of Can Giuoc urban area was approved by the Prime Minister in Decision No. 1405, dated 11/11/2022. In terms of orientation, Can Giuoc City will have 10 wards, in which the existing Can Giuoc town will be the center to spread urban development to neighboring areas. Compare with the standards of the city (according to Article 5 of Resolution No. 1211, dated May 25, 2016 of the 13th National Assembly Standing Committee on standards and classification of administrative units, Can Giuoc district basically meets 4/5 standards of the city's administrative unit under the province in terms of population size; area, administrative units; economic structure and level of socio-economic development.

However, in order to be considered, evaluated and classified as qualified to become a municipal city under a province, a district must be recognized as a grade III urban center and have 65% or more of the number of wards out of the total number of commune-level administrative units, which means 10 commune-level administrative units must be recognized as meeting ward standards according to the proposed plan to establish a scheme on recognition of wards according to urban standards of grade III.

Secretary of Can Giuoc District Party Committee - Truong Thanh Liem said, with the determination to successfully build Can Giuoc city in the shortest time, the district is focusing on developing specific plans to implement the planning, with reasonable divergence associated with implementation resources. In which, the district focuses on completing the Can Giuoc urban master plan project to submit to the Provincial and Central People's Committees for approval in 2023, as a basis for implementing the next steps. At the same time, the district selects strategic programs and projects that need to be prioritized for investment with high feasibility, creating a driving force to promote socio-economic development.

In addition, the district mobilizes all resources to invest in the urban infrastructure system, especially the framework technical infrastructure and essential social infrastructure by 2025, which basically meets the criteria of grade III urban areas and towards the recognition of Can Giuoc City; accelerates the implementation of key projects according to the Resolution of the District Party Congress for the term 2020-2025; focuses on completing key traffic infrastructure works: Provincial road 835, 835B, 826C, Truong Long dike road, Can Giuoc river square, district roads connecting Ho Chi Minh City to ensure traffic problems and create beauty urban authority.

Also, the district wil perform well and effectively the site clearance work; coordinate to speed up the construction progress of key projects: Provincial road 827E, exploit clean land fund along Provincial road 826D, Tan Tap - Long Hau road (section from Ring road 4 to Provincial road 830), Long Hau 3 Industrial Park, phase 2 of Dong Nam A Industrial Park , Nam Tan Tap Industrial Park, industrial clusters, resettlement areas, etc. The district will correct discipline in urban management; architectural planning; order of construction, land, environment and continue to promote urban embellishment,etc./.
