Vietnamese, Cambodian women hold exchange on 40th anniversary of victory over genocidal regime

The Vietnam Women’s Union and the Cambodian Women for Peach and Development held an exchange in Rach Gia city, Kien Giang province, on February 23, to mark the 40th anniversary of Vietnam’s victory in the Southwest border defence war and the Vietnam-Cambodia joint victory over the Pol Pot genocidal regime.

Chairwoman of the Vietnam Women’s Union Nguyen Thi Thu Ha reviewed Vietnam’s support for Cambodia to escape from the genocidal regime and reconstruct the country, as well as the solidarity of women of both countries during the war.

Deputy Secretary of Kien Giang provincial Party Committee Dang Tuyet Em expressed her pride as Kien Giang was selected to host the exchange. She noted that Kien Giang and Cambodia’s neighboring provinces have a good friendship and cooperative relations under which many cooperation documents have been signed.

Vice Chairwoman of Cambodian Women for Peach and Development Mean Som An said that the historic victory on January 7, 1979 was a joint victory of the peoples and armed forces of Vietnam and Cambodia and an important milestone in the traditional friendship between the two countries.

Today’s exchange is an opportunity for people of both countries to review the history and contribute to deepening the good neighbourly relations, traditional friendship, and comprehensive partnership between the two sides.

On the occasion, the Vietnam Women’s Union and the Cambodian Women for Peach and Development presented gifts to former volunteer soldiers fighting at the Cambodian battlefield. Leaders of Kien Giang province also granted five scholarships to Cambodian students studying at Kien Giang University./.
