Collective economy—a sustainable direction to escape poverty

Developing collective economy and cooperatives is one of the important solutions to help people in Tay Ninh province increase their income and sustainably reduce poverty. Many cooperatives, cooperative groups, and farmer associations in the province have proactively innovated their operating models, applied technology, linked with businesses, and formed effective agricultural value chains.

According to the Provincial Cooperative Union, the province currently has more than 370 cooperatives operating in the agricultural sector, attracting tens of thousands of households to participate. Many cooperatives have boldly converted to modern management models, applying digital transformation in management and product traceability, contributing to improving productivity, quality and value of agricultural products.

In recent years, the province's agricultural production has recorded remarkable growth in both output and quality. The development of a chain linking farmers, cooperatives, and enterprises has created concentrated production areas, promoted mechanization, applied scientific and technological advances. Thanks to that, the province's agricultural products increasingly meet the strict requirements of domestic and foreign markets.

Currently, more than 100 agricultural cooperatives in the province have joined the chain of input material supply and product consumption with businesses. This linkage model not only helps increase the value of goods but also creates stable output, helping farmers feel secure in production.

Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment Nguyen Dinh Xuan said, "The market is increasingly strict. Distribution chains require products of uniform quality, traceable origin, and reasonable prices. Therefore, farmers joining together to establish cooperatives is an inevitable direction, helping to improve competitiveness and sustainable development".

Not only in large-scale commodity production, many collective economic models at the grassroots level also contribute significantly to poverty reduction. In An Ninh commune, 5 conical hat-making groups maintain regular activities with 80 members. On average, each worker makes about 10 hats a day, with a stable income, helping families have an additional source of income during the off-season. Currently, the price of hats without straps is 150,000 VND/dozen, a good worker can make 10 hats a day. After deducting all expenses, the profit is about 50,000 VND.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Huyen - a member of the hat-making group, shared, "I have been involved in this profession since I was 15 years old. This profession can make ends meet and is also fun because I get to meet, chat, and work with other people."

Not only preserving traditional crafts, many agricultural cooperatives in the province are also places to spread the spirit of innovation and creativity. Chairman of Cau Doi Association (An Luc Long commune) Truong Minh Trung said, “Members of the Association regularly meet, share experiences, and learn from each other. We also organize tours to study effective agricultural models in and outside the province to apply appropriately to local conditions.”

From such collective economic models, people can not only increase income but also change their business mindset, know how to connect, apply new techniques, and increase the value of agricultural products. This is also an important foundation for the locality to effectively implement the National Target Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction.

Collective economy is demonstrating its clear role in creating livelihoods, stabilizing life, and promoting rural development. In the coming time, the Provincial Cooperative Union will continue to support cooperatives and cooperative groups to improve their management capacity, expand linkages and apply science and technology, helping people to escape poverty sustainably.

With the right direction and the support of all levels and sectors, the collective economy in Tay Ninh is affirming itself as an important driving force contributing to the goal of poverty reduction, new rural construction, and sustainable socio-economic development./.
