High efficiency
This year's Summer-Autumn crop is the second year that Thanh Hung Agricultural Cooperative has been selected by the provincial Center for Agricultural Extension and Services to implement a pilot model of VietGAP rice production on an area of 50 hectares with 13 participating households. Accordingly, farmers implementing the model mainly sow two main varieties, OM18 (30.5 hectares) and IR4625 (19.5 hectares), synchronously applying many advanced solutions such as: cluster sowing, sparse sowing to reduce the amount of seeds; using organic biological fertilizers, microbial preparations, new generation fertilizers and biological pesticides; implementing the process of "1 must do, 5 reduce", "1 must do, 6 reduce", integrated pest management (IPM); etc.

In particular, farmers also have access to drone technology in the stages of sowing, fertilizing and spraying pesticides. This is a new step forward, reducing labor, saving costs and ensuring accuracy. In addition, the model also applies the alternating flood and dry irrigation technique, saving water and limiting the occurrence of pests and diseases.
Thanks to the synchronous application, the model has recorded production costs lower than outside by about 1.42 million VND/hectare. The expected yield increases by 200kg/hectare, the profit is higher than the outside by about 2.76 million VND/hectare.
Mr. Nguyen Van Luon - a member of Thanh Hung Agricultural Cooperative, shared: “Since participating in the VietGAP rice production model, I have seen many benefits such as less labor, reduced input costs, and improved rice quality. Previously, each crop, I sowed nearly 200kg of seeds/hectare, now it has been reduced to about 100-120kg, the rice plants are healthier, with fewer pests and diseases. The biggest gain is that farmers change their mindset, working together in sync so that everyone can get the benefits.”
Long Thuan Agricultural Cooperative also implemented the VietGAP rice production model for the second year on an area of 50hectares, with the participation of 16 households, the main variety is IR4625 glutinous rice. Farmers sow seeds at a rate of 100kg/hectare, using organic fertilizers, new generation NPK fertilizers and biological products.
The results show that the production cost is about 22.56 million VND/hectare, lower than outside the model by about 1.48 million VND/hectare. The expected yield is 6.3 tons/hectare, the profit is about 21.85 million VND/hectare, higher than outside the model by about 1.79 million VND/hectare.
This year, Long Thuan Agricultural Cooperative has made an important leap forward when farmers reduced 12 kg of pure nitrogen (26 kg of urea)/hectare and initially applied biological products to treat straw, improve soil, limit nematodes, algae, and reduce weeds.
Mr. Le Minh Truc - a member of Long Thuan Agricultural Cooperative participating in the model, said: "Before, growing rice did not bring great profit. Now, applying organic fertilizers and biological products, the fields are more porous, the rice plants are healthy. Input costs have decreased significantly, rice is prioritized by traders for purchase because of guaranteed quality."
The above figures are proof of the dual effectiveness, both increasing farmers' income and improving product quality, protecting the environment. In addition, the model also affirms the strength of collective cooperation when farmers plant seeds simultaneously, reducing the pressure of pests and diseases and creating a stable source of goods.
An inevitable trend to increase the value of rice grains
From practical results, the provincial agricultural sector affirms that production in the direction of VietGAP is an inevitable trend to increase the value of rice grains. The pilot models play a "nucleus" role, from which they can be expanded to concentrated production areas and large fields.
Deputy Director of the provincial Center for Agricultural Extension and Services Vo Thanh Nghia informed: “The effectiveness of the models shows that farmers have reduced production costs, increased profits; and more importantly, changed their production mindset. In the coming time, the i will continue to recommend farmers to replicate the model, increase the use of organic fertilizers, microbiological products, apply drone technology, and link with businesses for sustainable rice consumption.”

Synchronized mechanization helps reduce costs and improve rice quality in VietGAP production
In addition to technical support, the provincial agricultural sector also sets out a development orientation according to the value chain: from production, harvesting, processing to consumption. The goal is to form a high-quality rice material area, meeting the requirements of official export to demanding markets.
One of the highlights is encouraging farmers to keep field diaries and transparent production processes. This is also a favorable condition for traceability - a factor that is increasingly valued by the international market.
In addition, the province focuses on training and technical training for farmers; strengthening the connection between cooperatives and purchasing and processing enterprises; applying digital technology in field management. These are fundamental steps to improve quality, reduce costs and increase the competitiveness of Tay Ninh rice.
The two models of summer-autumn rice production in 2025 following VietGAP direction at Thanh Hung Agricultural Cooperative and Long Thuan Agricultural Cooperative have affirmed their outstanding efficiency in terms of economy, society and environment - not only helping farmers increase profits but also opening up a sustainable direction for the province's rice industry.
More importantly, through the model, farmers have initially changed their production mindset - from quantity to quality; from individual production to cooperation and association. This is the foundation for the province to successfully implement the goal of building a high-quality commodity rice area, meeting export requirements, increasing the value of Tay Ninh rice and contributing to affirming the Vietnamese rice brand in the international market./.
