'Leverage' for smart and sustainable agriculture

On December 22, 2024, the Politburo issued Resolution No. 57 on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation, with the goal of turning Vietnam into a developed, high-income country by 2045. The agricultural sector, since the Resolution was issued, has affirmed that science, technology, innovation and digital transformation are important driving forces for the development of modern, sustainable and globally integrated agriculture.

In Tay Ninh, developing clean and high-tech agriculture is one of the key and breakthrough programs in the province's socio-economic development in the 2021-2025 period.

With the goal of developing agriculture in the direction of value chains, meeting international standards to expand the market, and improving efficiency and profits through the application of advanced technology, the province deploys digital transformation models in agriculture, closely linked with the development of technology infrastructure and smart agricultural solutions.

The foundation for this development is the application of technology from production to consumption, ensuring that all agricultural production processes are closely monitored, transparent and effective.

According to Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment Nguyen Dinh Xuan, Tay Ninh has promoted agricultural industrialization, while mechanizing agriculture to bring high technology into production.

Especially in livestock farming, it has shifted from the traditional small-scale, individual, household livestock farming model to medium and large-scale farms, applying modern technology, thereby creating a large amount of goods, gradually participating in export activities.

In order to promote the development of the agricultural sector in a sustainable and modern direction, in recent years, the province has issued many mechanisms and policies to support infrastructure and digital technology applications such as: software for tracing the origin of crops and livestock; traceability stamps, monitoring and supporting the registration of growing area codes, product packaging facility codes, irrigation databases, etc. to support production development in the process of restructuring the agricultural sector, helping to increase productivity and value for agricultural products.

One of the advanced models deployed in Tay Ninh is the application of automatic irrigation technology, including drip irrigation and mist irrigation systems.

These systems help save water, improve resource efficiency and reduce production costs for farmers, while helping to minimize the impact of climate change, protecting crops from drought and flooding.

Typically, Tuong Lai Agriculture Company Limited is implementing a model of growing cantaloupes in greenhouses in Tan Bien commune.

To ensure even growth of crops, water and fertilizer are transferred through a modern drip irrigation system using Israeli technology to help crops absorb nutrients well at each stage of growth, increase productivity, and minimize the risk of pests and diseases.

“When grown in greenhouses, using modern and advanced irrigation technology, the company's crop yield increases by 20-30% compared to traditional farming methods. In particular, the crops have stable yield, uniform quality, and meet VietGAP standards, helping the company easily access the market,” said Mr. Dang Huu Nghia - Director of the Company.

One of the factors that helped the province achieve initial results in digital transformation in the agricultural sector is the close coordination between local authorities and enterprises.

In particular, the province invites large corporations in the technology industry to participate in developing digital infrastructure and providing technology solutions for farmers; proactively build preferential policies, creating favorable conditions for domestic and foreign enterprises to invest in the field of high-tech agriculture, etc.

Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment Nguyen Dinh Xuan said: "The next stage from 2025 onwards and towards 2045, we aim for a green, sustainable agriculture, integrating digital technology and circular economy. We will introduce digital transformation factors and increasingly automate the cultivation and livestock production lines for management, transportation, slaughter, and traceability. This will contribute to increasing the value of agricultural products according to VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards."

Smart and high-tech agriculture is becoming an inevitable trend. With continuous efforts in applying technology, improving production processes and developing resources, Tay Ninh will grow strongly, becoming one of the major agricultural production centers of the country, leading in applying digital transformation to agriculture./.
