According to Director of the Department of Transport - Dang Hoang Tuan, in recent times, the Department has coordinated with relevant agencies and units to urgently develop mechanisms and policies to attract containers to ports in the province, promoted the development of traffic infrastructure, strengthened maintenance of routes to ensure traffic safety, facilitated the transportation of goods from factories to ports, reduced logistics costs for businesses.
In addition, the Department focuses on directing units and contractors to promptly complete key traffic and breakthrough works.
A representative of Long An International Port said that the port is adjacent to industrial parks, industrial services and urban areas, thereby forming a seaport service complex, playing an important role in the chain of goods trade in the Mekong Delta region.

In addition, Long An International Port also connects Ho Chi Minh City, the Southeast and 12 provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta with countries around the world.
According to the representative of Long An International Port, in recent years, the volume of cargo handled at the port has increased every year: In 2018, it received 350,000 tons, in 2020 it was more than 1,400,000 tons, in 2023 it was 2,200,000 tons, in 2024 it is more than 4,000,000 tons.
The port provides a full range of seaport and logistics services such as general cargo handling, containers, warehousing, yard services, international freight forwarding, water and land transport, and customs brokerage.
Currently, the port has 7 wharves, capable of receiving 70,000-ton ships. However, due to the lack of a customs branch at the port, customers are still hesitant to receive and deliver imported and exported goods through the port.
The representative of Long An International Port proposed that all levels and sectors of Long An province speed up the establishment of a customs branch at the port, issue mechanisms and preferential policies to attract container goods, accompany in creating a container foothold and regulate the flow of goods to the port.

Speaking at the conference, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee - Nguyen Minh Lam said that by 2030, Long An will form 10 logistics centers in the districts: Can Giuoc, Ben Luc, Chau Thanh, Can Duoc, Duc Hue, Tan Tru, Kien Tuong town and research to build a logistics center in Duc Hoa district, contributing to promoting economic exchange between Long An and the provinces in the Southeast region and the Mekong Delta.
Mr. Nguyen Minh Lam said that the development of a policy to encourage container transport through the port in the province is an urgent task to exploit and promote the unique potential to create a breakthrough in rapid and sustainable socio-economic development, creating a competitive advantage in attracting domestic and foreign investment.
The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee assigned the Department of Transport to be the focal point to closely coordinate with relevant agencies, study in depth each recommendation and comments of speakers and businesses; and assess the expected impact and specific effectiveness of the policy. In particular, it is necessary to clearly identify the legal mechanism, entities in need of support, support level, and implementation time of the support policy so that it is reasonable.
