Long An calls for investment in logistics projects

Long An has a particularly important strategic position, located in the Southern key economic region, which is the gateway connecting the provinces and city of the Mekong River Delta region with Ho Chi Minh City and the Southeast region. With this advantage, together with efforts in investment in the infrastructure system, Long An will gradually become an industrial and service center of the Mekong River Delta region and an important location for logistics activities of the provinces and Southern city.

Logistics projects are called for investment

To serve the industrial development of the province, especially the key economic region, in the list of priority projects to attract investment in 2021, Long An province calls for investment in logistics center projects; including the Logistics Center Project in Luong Hoa Commune (Ben Luc District) with an area of about 50 hectares. This project is part of the master plan towards building a regional logistics center, becoming the location of logistics services to form a chain of transshipment centers and logistics services of the Mekong River Delta in the coming time.

Another logistics project that Long An is calling for investment is the food logistics receiving area in the Dong Thap Muoi region of the province. The project has a scale of 40ha in Thanh Hoa district, the total investment is expected to be about 18.3 million USD. The enterprises are entitled to preferential policies according to current regulations when investing.

In addition, the province also called for a logistics and logistics service center in Ben Luc with a scale of 10 hectares. Total investment is expected to be about 300 million USD. In addition to these logistics projects, Long An also calls for many other projects with an area of hundreds of hectares located in communes of Thanh Phu, Thanh Loi and Luong Hoa (Ben Luc district), logistics center at My Quy Tay Border Gate (Duc Hue district).

Building a gateway to trade goods in the region

With a favorable geographical position, Long An is considered as the gateway for the Mekong River Delta region to reach the higher level, so it is extremely important to focus on investment and calling for investment in logistics centers. Logistics projects are also part of a larger vision to soon realize the goals set out in the Planning on Logistics Centers with orientation 2020 - 2030 of the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

For this reason, for many years, the provincial government has coordinated with Dong Tam Group to accelerate the construction of a logistics center at Long An International Seaport (Tan Tap Commune, Can Giuoc District) with a scale of 147 hectares. Long An International Port has a very convenient location because it is adjacent to the Soai Rap River, only 10 kilometers from Hiep Phuoc Seaport - Ho Chi Minh City by river, 15 kilometers from the East Sea estuary.

General Director of Long An International Seaport - Le Minh Phuc informed that the port was invested and built in 3 phases with 7 wharves capable of receiving ships of up to 70,000DWT. Currently, the port can handle bulk cargo from 3,000-5,000 tons per day and can receive ships of 25,000 tons. Currently, the port performs logistics services such as barge berth operation, warehouse system, bonded warehouse, container yard system, other ancillary works, etc.

All items as well as the operating center system are being urgently built to support logistics activities to serve businesses. The seaports are serving many customers who are enterprises specializing in iron and steel, seafood, agricultural products, fertilizers, animal feed, liquid goods, etc. In particular, customers with super-long and super-weighted products for the wind power industry.

According to statistics of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, although enterprises in the Mekong River Delta export rice accounting for 90 percent of the country's volume, over 50 percent of aquatic products, 50 percent of vegetables and fruits, so on but only about 20-30 percent of goods are exported through ports in the region. The rest of export goods must be forwarded to ports in Ho Chi Minh City, the Southeast region by road, inland waterway and coastal transportation. That unreasonableness not only increases costs and time, but also puts more pressure on the road traffic system in the area, which is still limited.

To solve these inadequacies, the Provincial People's Committee assigned the Department of Industry and Trade, some other departments and branches to connect businesses and Long An International Seaport to create new trade flows in import and export of goods. With the convenience of goods movement for import and export activities, enterprises also shorten the time, reduce transportation costs, input costs and increase the competitiveness of output products.

Logistics center projects, when invested and put into operation, together with Long An International Seaport are increasingly being completed, not only promoting investment attraction and development of industrial parks and clusters in the area, but it also contributes to reducing the load on the port cluster in Ho Chi Minh City, shortening the time, reducing transportation costs, indirectly increasing the competitiveness of enterprises, meeting the increasing import and export demand of Long An province in particular and the Mekong River Delta provinces in general.

Thereby, it creates a favorable environment to attract investment, improve the provincial competitiveness index (PCI), makes the most of the bilateral trade cooperation contents that Vietnam has signed with countries around the world; It is expected to be an important driving force for the province's socio-economic development./.
