Long An handles nearly 3,900 cases of smuggling, commercial fraud, and counterfeit goods in 2023
On March 19, Long An Provincial People's Committee summarized the work of preventing and combating smuggling, trade fraud, and counterfeit goods in 2023 and the peak period of Lunar New Year of Dragon 2024.

Specifically, in 2023, the functional forces of Long An province carried out more than 6,200 inspections, detected and handled nearly 3,900 violations. Of these, there were 735 cases of illegal smuggling, transportation, storage, and trading of banned and smuggled goods; 41 cases of trading poor quality fertilizers, fake fertilizers and more than 3,100 cases of commercial fraud. Authorities confiscated more than 1.7 million packs of cigarettes, 4.2 tons of firecrackers, more than 200 tons of granulated sugar, more than 12.6kg of assorted drugs and many other exhibits such as foreign alcohol, used goods, etc.

Long An collected over 344 billion VND from administrative sanctions, tax collection and sale of confiscated goods; prosecuted and investigated 97 cases with 84 citizens smuggling, transporting, storing, trading banned, smuggled, and counterfeit goods.
During the peak fight against smuggling, trade fraud, and counterfeit goods during the Lunar New Year of the Dragon 2024 (from November 20, 2023 - February 20, 2024), the authorities of Long An province checked and inspected nearly 1,300 times. Thereby, 908 cases of violation were discovered; including 255 cases of smuggling and 613 cases of violations in production, trading and food safety. More than 452,000 packs of smuggled foreign cigarettes, 6.6 tons of firecrackers of all kinds, 36.8 tons of granulated sugar were confiscated; th province prosecuted and investigated 31 cases with 32 citizens.

Deputy Secretary of Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of Long An Provincial People's Committee - Nguyen Van Ut emphasized that the situation of smuggling and trade fraud in the area is still quite complicated with items such as cigarettes, firecrackers, and fertilizers, etc. Therefore, it is recommended that units and localities continue to thoroughly grasp and strictly, effectively implement the directions of the Central Government and the National Steering Committee 389 on the prevention and combat of smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeiting.
Relevant sectors must proactively grasp the situation, properly assess the current situation, clearly identify outstanding and complex issues regarding citizens, areas, items, new methods and tricks of smugglers, need to focus on forces, means, and method, strengthen forces and vehicles to patrol and control trails, roads, and key areas that where people regularly gather and transport goods across the border illegally, especially smuggling of fireworks, drugs, cigarette.
