Vice Chairman of Long An Provincial People's Committee - Pham Van Canh chaired an online conference with districts, towns and cities in the province

In 2019, the Agriculture sector has promptly issued documents to direct and implement the Action year on food safety in agriculture. Information and propaganda on the quality of agricultural materials and food safety of agriculture - forestry and fisheries was expanded with the participation of associations and unions such as Farmers, Women, etc.

During the year, the Agriculture sector focused on appraising production and trading conditions of agricultural materials and agricultural - forestry and fishery products with more than 930 establishments. According to the 2020 plan, 98 percent of production and business establishments in agricultural - forestry and fishery products will be ranked A and B levels (97 percent in 2019); 90 percent of establishments rated C will be upgraded to A or B level (86 percent in 2019); 75 percent of small establishments will sign a commitment on producing safe food (65 percent in 2019); 50 percent of key agricultural - forestry and fishery products with a high level of risk will be controlled according to the chain-based food safety; samples of agricultural - forestry and fishery products for large-scale surveillance of violations of biological pollution, impurities, pesticide residues, veterinary drugs, chemicals and antibiotics decreased by 10 percent compared to 2019.

Vice Chairman of Long An Provincial People's Committee - Pham Van Canh asked localities to focus on establishing safe food selling places

The disease prevention and control for terrestrial animals have been well implemented. Foot-and-mouth disease, PRRS (Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome) and Avian influenza occurred in small scale. However, in 2019, Rabies in humans, dogs and cats in Vinh Hung, Duc Hue and Tan Thanh districts caused 2 deaths.

In addition, African swine fever caused great losses for farmers. So far, there has been no vaccine to prevent African swine fever, the price of pigs has risen, farmers should meet biosecurity requirements to avoid the risk of recurrence in 2020.

At the conference, Deputy Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee - Pham Van Canh highly appreciated the results of the Agriculture sector in recent years. However, the management of the quality of agricultural materials and food safety still had certain limitations. Specifically, the rate of businesses trading in fresh food at traditional markets that sign a commitment to trading in safe food was low; the coordination in anti-epidemic and mobilizing forces in some localities was not really effective; etc.

In the coming time, he asked the Agriculture sector to strengthen coordination among relevant levels and branches in improving the effectiveness of food safety management; reducing biological pollution, impurities and residues of plant protection drugs, veterinary drugs, and chemical antibiotics in the production and trading of food, agricultural - forestry and fishery products; meeting the requirements of ensuring food safety for domestic consumption and expanding export markets./.
