Long An strives to have more OCOP products from cooperatives

After nearly 4 years of implementing the program "One commune, one product" (OCOP), despite significant investment, there are only 5 cooperatives in Long An province that have OCOP certified products. In order to improve this situation, the province's Agriculture sector strives to have more OCOP certified products from cooperatives in 2023.

Up to now, the province has 77 products that have been certified with 3 - 4 stars OCOP. However, most of these units are businesses and household businesses, the number of cooperatives that achieve OCOP products is very small (only 13.9%).

According to the statistics of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the whole province has 294 operating cooperatives, but only 5 cooperatives have products that meet OCOP standards, including: Muoi Hai Safe Vegetable Cooperative (Can Duoc district); Phuoc Thinh Agricultural Production, Trade and Service Cooperative (Can Giuoc District); Phuoc Hiep Safe Vegetable Cooperative (Can Giuoc District); Huong Vam Co Rice Paper Production and Trade Cooperative (Duc Hoa District) and Vinh Thuan Agricultural Cooperative (Vinh Hung District)./

Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development - Nguyen Thanh Truyen said that in order to improve this situation, in the coming time, the Department will focus on coordinating relevant departments, agencies and localities to support cooperatives in identifying key goods for production associated with the market; focusing on branding, personal branding, geographical indications and product traceability. Particularly for cooperatives that already have OCOP products, the Department will create conditions to participate in trade promotion activities, exhibitions, connecting supply and demand of OCOP products inside and outside the province, ...

The Department will also focus on training and transferring science and technology to improve productivity and product quality in order to increase competitiveness in the market./.
