The conference was chaired by the Acting Director of the National Agricultural Extension Center - Tran Van Khoi with the participation of more than 140 farmers in the Dong Thap Muoi sub-region.
The forum is an opportunity for delegates to analyze the development situation, appreciate the advantages and disadvantages, offer solutions to effectively exploit the potential for sustainable development of the aquaculture industry, promote the development of socio-economic development of the Dong Thap Muoi sub-region (in Long An, Tien Giang and Dong Thap provinces).
Aquaculture has an important position in the regional economy, with a total area of over 14,000 hectares. In Long An province, aquaculture area is over 9,000 hectares. This sector brings high efficiency and contributes to changing the rural economic structure, creating jobs, increasing income and reducing poverty.

However, the development of the fisheries sector has many limitations such as backward techniques, lack of technical and environmental pollution, and so on. For that reason, the delegates also offered solutions to rationally exploit and use natural resources and ensure ecological balance.
Acting Director of the National Center for Agricultural Extension - Tran Van Khoi asked localities to promote their advantages as a major area in raising key aquatic products for processing and export; strengthen the control to ensure the quality of breeds; effectively implement the 2017 Fisheries Law and sub-law documents; build infrastructure for aquaculture and connect to sustainable development in Dong Thap Muoi sub-region./.
