In 2007, Tan An town was recognized by the Ministry of Construction as a type III urban area. With the focus on investment, the determination of the entire political system and the people of the city in urban construction and development, after only 2 years, on August 24, 2009, the Government issued Resolution No. 38/NQ-CP on the establishment of Tan An City under the province. On September 9, 2009, the province announced the establishment of Tan An City according to the Resolution of the Government.

With the spirit of not being afraid of difficulties, the Party Committee, government and people of the city focused on exploiting the potential and advantages of the locality; at the same time, mobilizing all resources for investment and development.

The city's economy continued to grow well and develop relatively comprehensively. The economic structure developed in the right direction, with the trade - service sector as the "spearhead". In recent times, thanks to the good work of exploiting and developing land funds, many new residential areas and urban areas have gradually taken shape. Typically, the expanded central residential area of ​​Ward 6 has been invested in and built, playing a role in the growth of the city. The radial traffic axis, National Highway 1, National Highway 62, and the Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong Expressway have created more favorable conditions for the city to develop. The two main river branches, the Vam Co Tay River and the Bao Dinh River, have been well exploited by the city, initially creating a typical landscape axis for the river area.

The city currently has 3 industrial clusters in Loi Binh Nhon commune and 19 cooperatives operating stably. Convenience stores, markets, commercial - service and convenience businesses operate with large-scale. Along with that, the financial system in the city with many bank branches, transaction offices, etc are favorable conditions for businesses and people to borrow capital to invest, develop production and business, contributing to the process of economic restructuring of the city.

Tan An City develops in the direction of "Friendly, civilized, modern"

Culture - society is focused on and has achieved many outstanding results. In particular, the Smart Operation Center Project has been completed and put into use. This is the first step in implementing the construction of Tan An to become the first smart city of the province.

The work of Party building and consolidating the political system has been focused on, with many positive changes, especially the implementation of Resolution No. 4 of the Central Committee (term XI, XII), Conclusion No. 21-KL/TW of the Central Executive Committee and the Party's regulations on the exemplary responsibility of cadres and party members as well as the implementation of Conclusion No. 01 of the Politburo on continuing to implement Directive No. 05-CT/TW on promoting the study and following of Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and lifestyle. Tan An City is currently a Class II city. Member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee, Secretary of the City Party Committee - Le Cong Dinh said that in 2024, Tan An City will be 15 years old and is determined to be the year of acceleration to achieve the set goals. That is to complete early the targets and tasks of the Resolution of the 11th Tan An City Party Congress "Strive to basically meet the criteria of a Class I city by 2025, towards being recognized as a Class I city before 2030"; The city is expected to be recognized as meeting the standards of a “Civilized City”; registered to build and strive to be recognized as a member of the UNESCO Global Learning Cities Network by 2025; started construction works and tasks to welcome the Party Congresses at all levels, term 2025-2030.

This is an important milestone for the Party Committee, government and people of Tan An City to continue to exploit and maximize its potential and strengths, mobilize all resources to build and develop the city into a civilized, rich and beautiful city, a gateway city of the Mekong Delta.

With the aspiration to become the “heart” of the province, in the coming time, the City Party Committee needs to accelerate further, creating many comprehensive development breakthroughs in the following areas: Administrative reform, improving the investment and business environment; completing the General Planning for Tan An City construction to 2030, with a vision to 2050; well implement mechanisms and policies on training human resources, especially high-quality technical human resources; complete social infrastructure, traffic infrastructure, digital infrastructure.
