Vietnam looks to speed up digital transformation process

SMEs are having opportunities for digital transformation, and it they cannot capitalise on upcoming chances for digital transformation, they will be lagging behind and even be wiped out, according to experts.

The process is projected to help the firms bolster growth, cut down on expenses and develop sustainably in the digital environment.

Figures of the Vietnam Software and IT Services Association (VINASA) showed that about 15 percent of SMEs across the country is carrying out digital transformation but up to 99 percent of surveyed SMEs said they are facing capital shortage for the work.

The Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) partnered with the US Agency for International Development to launch the Linkages for SMEs (USAID LinkSME) project earlier this month, aiming to support effective digital transformation of firms for the 2021-25. Under the project, at least 100,000 SMEs will receive technical assistance.

A representative of the MPI said the portal digital.business.gov.vn serves as a channel providing knowledge on digital transformation and linking enterprises.

In the field of healthcare, deputy head of the Information Technology Department at the Ministry of Health Nguyen Truong Nam said that the COVID-19 pandemic had proved that digital transformation is vital in the management and operation of medical establishments.

The health sector aims to apply digital technology in most of its activities and services by 2030, towards the formation of a smart health care system.

Medical facilities are urged to bolster technological application and build interconnected database to reduce time for checkups and costs./.
