Do not turn away from clean pork

After African swine fever (ASF) occured in Long An province, customers were afraid of pork. However, they still buy meat at locations where pork is sold with clear origins.

Customers do not turn away from clean pork

Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Phuong (in Ward 4, Tan An city) said: “When I heard the information about ASF, I did not dare to buy pork. Then, thanks to the mass media, I knew the epidemic can not infect to human. I always buy meat in supermarkets or clean pork shops to ensure food safety”.

According to Ms. Tran Thi Minh Phuong (in Hoa Phu commune, Chau Thanh district), her children enjoyed the dishes made from pork. Moreover, the price of pork is more reasonable than other types of meat so I still prefer to use it.

Pork consumption in Co.opmart Tan An has increased by 40 percent compared to the time before the outbreak of epidemic in the province. All products from pork at the supermarket are supplied from Vietnam Animal Products Joint Stock Company (Vissan). On average, Co.opmart Tan An consumes more than 300 kilograms of pork per day. When epidemic occurs, to meet consumer demand, the system of Saigon Co.op and Co.opmart Tan An will not raise pork prices, participate in the market stabilization group and do not change prices in the coming time, said the Co.opmart Tan An Director - Nguyen Thi Hoang Anh.

Many consumers still buy pork at the store of the Safe pork chain of Huynh Thanh Liem slaughterhouse (Ward 2 market, Tan An city) because of quality products.

The store owner affirmed: "The pork in my store has clear origin. However, since ASF occurred in the province, sales has been decreased. Previously, I sold more than 10 pigs per day (including wholesale and retail). Now, I just sell from 6 to 7 pigs per day.

According to many small businesses in traditional markets, the amount of pork is declining because the customers are worried about the epidemic. Most of them ask about the origin of pork and choose very carefully before buying.

At present, along with localities across the country, Long An urgently implements many measures to prevent the spread of ASF. Specifically, functional forces focus on sunpervising quarantine checkpoints, slaughterhouses and pork shops.

ASF does not spread to humans. So, people should not turn away from clean pork to contribute to limiting market fluctuations and affecting pig farmers.

Under the guidance of the Department of Preventive Medicine under the Ministry of Health, healthy and safe pork will have a natural red colour, white fat, elasticity, and no leaking fluids. Customers should buy pork with clear origin from reliable places. Besides, they should cook pork well before eating ./.
