Effective agricultural production models

Recently, in the agricultural sector, many new production models with good practices have been implemented, bringing efficiency, contributing to improving farmers' lives and increasing the value of agricultural products.

Prospects from frog farming

Among new, creative, and economically efficient agricultural models, frog farming is considered quite promising, contributing to increasing income and improving farmers' lives.

Mr. Truong Van Luoi (Voi Hamlet, My Thanh Tay Commune, Duc Hue District, Long An Province) used to be an mercenary. He did whatever he was hired to do, but the money was only enough to cover his living expenses.

In early 2024, thanks to an acquaintance's introduction, he decided to try frog farming. With more than 3 million VND, he built a small pond and tried raising 5,000 frogs. Initially, he only intended to "raise for fun", not thinking that it would become his main source of income.

The first batches of frogs brought high profits, so he boldly invested more than 30 million VND to expand the scale. Up to now, the total area of his frog ponds is more than 300m2. He was also the first person in the commune to initiate frog farming, after which many other households replicated him.

According to Mr. Luoi, the time taken to raise frogs from newborn to sale is 1.5 months, while from eggs to sale is 2.5 months.

Mr. Truong Van Luoi (Voi Hamlet, My Thanh Tay Commune, Duc Hue District) invested more than 30 million VND to build a pond to raise frogs

Mr. Luoi shared: “Although the time to raise frogs from eggs is longer, it is more effective thanks to the low loss rate and saving costs. However, the stage when frogs develop from eggs to tadpoles requires careful care, because this is the time that determines the quality of the entire crop.

Currently, the selling price of frog meat ranges from 35,000-45,000 VND/kg. After deducting costs, depending on the price each year, he have a profit of 100-200 million VND. Frogs are easy to raise and are suitable for the local climate and soil. However, farmers need to observe carefully to promptly handle when frogs show signs of illness.

To successfully raise frogs, Mr. Luoi pays attention to their living environment. Frogs are amphibians, changing their skin every day, making the water in the tank dirty. Therefore, changing the water regularly is very necessary. In addition, frogs are also susceptible to digestive diseases, so farmers must check regularly and have timely intervention measures.

According to experts, in the first month, after 1 week, start changing the water; the following times, change the water every 2-3 days, maintaining the water level from 25-30cm. From the second month, change the water once a day, reducing the water level to 10-15cm.

At the same time, change the water early in the morning, if changing in the evening, change it before feeding. If using well water, the water source must be pumped up and stored for 1 day in advance to remove the metallic smell and chemical components in the water.

With knowledge learned from acquaintances and the Internet, Mr. Luoi has succeeded with the frog farming model. In the future, he hopes to receive support in terms of capital and technology to continue developing the model. "I hope to be able to share the frog farming profession with interested people, helping many people have more options for sustainable economic development," said Mr. Luoi.

Organic rice cultivation

Currently, many farmers in Tan Tru district cultivate rice according to organic processes, both reducing production costs, increasing economic efficiency and protecting the ecological environment and people's health by limiting the use of fertilizers and chemical pesticides.

According to the Director of Tan Tru District Agricultural Service Center - Le Van Truong, in the past time, the district has had 25 organic rice production models with a scale of 250 hectares and is continuing to maintain and expand.

The model of high-tech organic rice cultivation associated with the construction of advanced new rural communes has been deployed by Tan Tru District Agricultural Service Center in many areas. Farmers are gradually getting used to using organic fertilizers in agricultural production, limiting excess fertilizer, especially nitrogen fertilizer, reducing pests, protecting natural enemies, reducing investment costs, protecting human health and the environment, creating safe rice products.

Growing rice organically helps reduce production costs and protect the environment

Mr. Le Van Nga (Binh Duc Hamlet, Binh Lang Commune, Tan Tru District) has been involved in rice farming since he was a child. He currently cultivates 0.5 hectares. After participating in the model, the State supported him with 40% of the cost of materials including rice seeds and fertilizers, straw decomposing products, biological pesticides, and organic foliar fertilizers.

Mr. Nga shared: “Participating in the model and being supported to grow rice organically, I found that the rice fields have the ability to tiller earlier and the number of shoots is higher than before. Using base fertilizer, organic microbial foliar fertilizer, Trichoderma and Humic as basal fertilizer helps loosen the soil, reduce acidity, increase tillering ability and help roots develop strongly, absorb maximum nutrients, etc. After summarizing the model, I continue to grow rice organically”.

According to Mr. Nga, after growing 2 crops organically, he noticed that the investment cost decreased, the yield increased, and the average profit was about 11% higher than before. "Using organic microbial fertilizers for root and foliar application helps balance the soil ecology. Using biological pesticides as well as applying pest and disease management measures helps reduce the cost of using pesticides" - Mr. Nga said.

According to the Agricultural Service Center of Tan Tru district, the fields applying the model and the normal fields have the same number of fertilizations (4 times). However, the fields applying the model mainly use organic fertilizers, so the soil is more porous and the roots develop stronger.

In the model field, Humic Acid Granules 99%, DS-90, Neptune and Vidabor foliar fertilizers are used to provide humic acid, effective potassium and medium nutrients, making the rice plants grow taller and have thicker, longer leaves than the normal field.

Farmers participating in the model are also enthusiastic, providing materials, and performing well in all stages from fertilizing with organic microbial fertilizers and Trichoderma before sowing to cultivating according to recommended technical processes.

Deputy Director of the Provincial Agricultural Service Center - Duong Van Tuan said that effective agricultural production models not only contribute to increasing farmers' income but also promote the sustainable development of the agricultural sector.

Currently, the Center encourages, supports and accompanies farmers to replicate effective farming models such as organic farming, applying high technology to farming, etc.

The Center also focuses on organizing training programs, transferring techniques, and organizing study tours of effective production models so that farmers can access advanced farming methods, meeting the needs of the domestic and export markets. This is an important foundation for building a sustainable agricultural development, ensuring both economic efficiency and environmental friendliness./.
