Hi-tech application is the "link" to protect the environment

Selecting modern models

Over the past 1 year, Xuan Huy Thinh One Member Company Limited (Phuoc Lai Commune, Can Giuoc District, Long An Province) has been one of the prestigious addresses supplying the market with clean vegetables, especially its long-term contracts for consuming vegetables with Co.opMarts in Ho Chi Minh City. Thereby, it contributes to high economic efficiency; at the same time, it raises the level of local agricultural products. It is not a coincidence that the company achieved the above results, the Board of Directors always clearly defined the method of operation, towards clean production when it was first established.

Mr. Le Chi Tam (Representative of Xuan Huy Thinh Co., Ltd.) informed: "In order to approach the fastidious market, the first thing the company thinks about is to produce clean, contributing to protecting consumers' health and protecting the environment. Accordingly, more than 1.5 hectares of the company's vegetables are produced by hydroponic and greenhouse methods. Vegetables grown by hydroponic method have a success rate of up to 98 percent, with little loss, and a limited source of waste into the environment. Because of strictly following the "disciplines" in production, the entire production area of the company is always closed, clean and cool.

The remarkable thing of the company not only creates clean, safe and environmentally friendly products, but through this model, it also wants to change the viewpoints, methods and ways of thinking of farmers about clean organic agricultural production. It is known that at present, the company cooperates with 5 households growing vegetables in the locality by hydroponic method. Households involved in production are supported with varieties and farming processes.

Mr. Vo Luong Ngoc Sau (Phuoc Lai commune, Can Giuoc district) said: “Growing vegetables by hydroponic method helps my family shorten the growth time of vegetables and reduce labor, so the profit is higher than with traditional planting. More importantly, my family has an objective view of clean agriculture, which is to limit the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, use only organic fertilizers, and apply scientific and technical advances in the growing process".

According to the Deputy Head of the Sub-Department of Cultivation, Plant Protection and Quality Control of Agricultural Products - Huynh Kim Toan, the hydroponic vegetable garden of Xuan Huy Thinh Company Limited has contributed to creating many quality agricultural products and high economic value, towards the development of safe organic agriculture. It not only helps to save labor, optimize area, increase productivity, ensure quality, food safety, so on but also opens up the prospect of intensive farming of clean vegetables, towards modern, efficient and sustainable agriculture industry.

In recent years, yellow apricot trees on Tan Tay land, Thanh Hoa district have brought high income for growers. In 2020, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development coordinated with the People's Committee of Thanh Hoa district to organize the awarding ceremony to recognize the apricot farming village in Tan Tay commune, contributing to creating favorable conditions for the craft village to develop its brand, scale and improve the production value, promoting tourism, socio-economic development in the locality. Accordingly, from July to November 2021, the Provincial Sub-department of Rural Development and Irrigation will pilot the model of applying advanced and water-saving technology for apricot trees at the Tan Tay apricot growing group, Tan Tay commune, Thanh Hoa district.

Here, the Tan Tay apricot growing cooperation group installed an irrigation system for 1 hectare with a total cost of nearly 71 million VND, of which the budget supports over 28 million VND, the rest is reciprocated by farmers. Deputy Director of the Provincial Sub-Department of Rural Development and Irrigation - Le Hong Son said: "Drip irrigation is a technique of supplying water to the roots of plants in the form of slow drips with a constant flow thanks to the constant flow of water with the water pressure regulation mechanisms of the drip tip embedded in the duct or outside the pipe.

After the pilot period, the model yielded outstanding results such as not needing great pressure to supply water, limiting weeds; can fertilize through the drip irrigation system, save fertilizer, plants absorb higher nutrients; The drip irrigation system does not pollute the environment, etc. The application model of water-saving irrigation technology is currently an effective solution that actively adapts to adverse weather conditions, contributing to environmental protection.

Reducing fertilizers and pesticides to protect the environment

In the past time, the promotion of application of advanced science and technology in farming and animal husbandry has contributed to helping farmers increase their income and improve their quality of life, especially joining hands with local authorities to protect the environment. And this is also the inevitable direction of modern agriculture. Having identified this issue, the Resolution of the Provincial Party Congress for the term 2020 - 2025 continues to select the Hi-tech Agricultural Development Program associated with the restructuring of the Agriculture sector as one of the three breakthrough programs. In which, expanding the area and implementing subjects, specific targets such as 60,000 hectares of rice, 6,000 hectares of dragon fruit, 3,000 hectares of lemon trees, 2,000 hectares of hi-tech vegetables, 100 hectares of shrimp and beef cattle.

Head of Agriculture and Rural Development Department of Vinh Hung district - Huynh Van Lam shared: "In current agricultural production, the use of pesticides to control harmful organisms to protect crops is an indispensable issue. However, many farmers abuse fertilizers and pesticides, affecting product quality and polluting the environment. In recent years, thanks to the attention of all levels and branches in the transfer of science and technology, and building hi-quality rice areas with advanced technology, many farmers have changed their perception from traditional production to modern ones. Since then, the abuse of fertilizers and pesticides has gradually decreased".

According to the Provincial Agricultural Service Center, in 2021, the Center will support the construction of four models of hi-tech rice areas that meet European export standards in four districts of the Dong Thap Muoi region, including Tan Hung, Vinh Hung, Moc Hoa and Tan Thanh. The model was carried out in the Winter-Spring rice crop of 2021 - 2022, the rice varieties using OM 18 and Jasmine were certified and applied sparse sowing, row sowing and sowing by drones.

When participating in the model, farmers are supported 70 percent of rice seeds and 50 percent of the rental price of drone services for the whole production crop, but not more than 1.7 million VND per hectare. The goal of the model is to help farmers realize and boldly change the rice farming process towards reducing varieties; synchronously apply mechanization in production stages in order to reduce losses and reduce costs; production in the direction of safety, improve the quality of agricultural products, towards European standards.

Director of the Sub-Department of Cultivation, Plant Protection and Quality Control of Agricultural Products - Nguyen Van Cuong affirmed: "One of the highlights in natural environmental protection has been and is being well implemented by the province in recent years is the investment of advanced technology into production in order to realize the goal of harmonizing the development of agriculture in the direction of modern, safe, sustainable and environmental protection, and this is also a long-term goal and a strategic task in socio-economic development.

In the coming time, the Sub-department will continue to promote information and propaganda on farming processes and techniques; organize training courses "3 decrease, 3 increase", "1 must, 5 decrease", science - technology transfer, so on; supporting and replicating clean and organic production models; put mechanization into production; continue to build clean production chains; so on. Thereby, it contributes to raising people's awareness and reducing the amount of fertilizers and pesticides to protect the environment"./.
