The DIT’s director Le Minh Duc said by the beginning of the year to date, rice production has still faced many challenges but the result of rice exports showed that local enterprises have had many efforts.
Since July 1, the policies of importing rice to China have been changed. Import tariffs on rice such as Jasmine rice (including sticky rice) have been also increased from 5 percent to 50 percent.
After all, it is forecast that Vietnam’s rice exports from now till year-end will increase due to the demand of import rice in key markets such as China, Korea, the Philippines, Indonesia, Iraq is forecast to be increased also.
Accordingly, the Philippines plans to import more 500 to 800 thousands of tons of rice from now till the end of the year to stabilize domestic rice prices while Indonesia and African countries reported to import rice from other countries to cope with the flooding situation in the country. Korea signed contract to buy more 92,000 tons of rice in September 3 and rice shipments will be transferred to the country from November 30 to December 31.
Rice productivity in Cambodia has been reducing sharply due to the impact of consecutive floods from July causing rice exports reduced.
19 enterprises in Long An province are allowed to export directly rice. Of two enterprises can export direct rice to China not to depend on large scale enterprises as intermediaries./.
