Speaking at the meeting, Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao said that Long An and Oakland have similarities and the same goal of promoting cooperation opportunities in potential fields of both sides such as trade and investment, build a seaport.

She highly appreciated Long An province for its political and social stability, economic potential, and many advantages in terms of rich culture and tourism. She believes that Oakland has a lot of potential for cooperation with Long An and hopes that the two sides will sign a cooperation agreement on economic - cultural - social development to strengthen connections for sustainable economic development in the future.

Vice Chairman of Long An Provincial People's Committee - Nguyen Minh Lam wishes to promote comprehensive relationships with US partners and localities. He affirmed that Long An currently has a favorable investment environment, investment procedures are minimized, and policy mechanisms to attract investment are increasingly diverse, innovative and attractive. In particular, the transport infrastructure system and infrastructure of industrial zones and clusters have been seriously invested to match the investment attraction potential.

Through this business trip, he wants to have connection and cooperation between the province and Oakland City in the fields of commercial investment, science and technology development, innovation, management of import and export activities, logistics, seaport. The province commits to continue to act more effectively and substantially and create the best conditions for US businesses to invest in Long An.

Recently, Long An has attracted 23 US FDI projects with a total registered capital of over 484 million USD, accounting for 4.6% of the total FDI capital from about 40 countries and territories. In particular, on August 8, 2023, provincial leaders witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation between Long An International Port and Oakland Port to share experiences in port management and operations and promote relationships to create a common market, contributing to increasing the output of transshipped goods of the two sides.

At the meeting, the two sides basically agreed that in the near future, Long An province and Oakland City will take the next steps to further tighten the good relationship between the two localities. It is possible to move towards signing a Memorandum of Cooperation between the two localities. Thereby, the leaders of both sides agreed to further strengthen the attraction of US businesses in general and Oakland in particular to continue investing in Long An and vice versa.

On this occasion, the Mayor of Oakland presented the delegation a press release recognizing the business trip of the Oakland City Delegation to visit and work with the Provincial Leaders and Long An International Port, specifically towards seaport cooperation, promoting economic and cultural investment, especially promoting investment economic activities of Vietnamese Americans in Long An.

After the meeting, the Long An Provincial delegation surveyed Oakland Port - one of the largest ports located in San Francisco Bay, serving as an important import-export trade point between many countries around the world including Vietnam. It is known that the Port of Oakland is the fourth largest port in the United States, an important gateway for trade and transport of goods and agricultural products. At the same time, it is one of three main ports on the West Coast located in San Francisco Bay (Oakland City, California, USA) with the capacity to handle more than 99% of containerized goods moving through Northern California and is the 9th busiest container port in the US.
