Proposal to add Bau Bang - Moc Bai railway line to the national railway network planning

The People's Committee of Tay Ninh province has just sent a document to the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City regarding the review and synthesis of the main traffic routes connecting the two localities. In particular, the People's Committee of Tay Ninh province requested the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City to coordinate with the Ministry of Construction and the Government to update and supplement the Bau Bang - Moc Bai railway route to the project to adjust and supplement the national railway network planning.

Accordingly, the Bau Bang - Moc Bai railway line was included in the provincial planning for the period 2021-2030 by the two provinces of Binh Duong and Tay Ninh, now Ho Chi Minh City and Tay Ninh, with a vision to 2050. At the same time, this railway line has also been updated in the Southeast Regional Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050 according to Decision No. 370 of the Prime Minister.

However, up to now, the railway line has not been updated or added to the adjustment and supplement project of the national railway network planning; the detailed planning project of the railway in the Ho Chi Minh City hub area.

According to the planning of the two localities, this railway line is about 57km long, the section through Tay Ninh province is about 27km long and the section through Ho Chi Minh City is 30km long. The starting point is at Tan Hung station, Ben Cat ward, Ho Chi Minh City and the ending point is at Moc Bai station, Ben Cau commune, Tay Ninh province.

The railway line runs from Tan Hung station, Bau Bang Logistics Center, straight to the West and parallel to the South of the industrial - urban - service development dynamic road of Binh Duong - Tay Ninh to the end point connecting with Moc Bai station, Moc Bai Border Gate Economic Zone. The line is designed with a railway gauge of 1,435mm, double track, 12.5m wide road surface; 40m railway boundary line.

This railway line is expected to develop freight and passenger transport to support the economy associated with eco-tourism on the Saigon River - Dau Tieng Lake, supporting industrial and logistics development in the area bordering Ho Chi Minh City and the Moc Bai Border Gate Economic Zone. At the same time, this route will contribute to promoting economic growth in Ho Chi Minh City and Tay Ninh province as well as the Southeast region.

In addition to the Bau Bang - Moc Bai railway, the Provincial People's Committee also recommended that the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee prioritize investment in 9 important connecting locations on the roads between the two localities and soon dredge the Saigon River to ensure the waterway transport flow from level III to level II according to the planning, combined with the recovery of dredging products to serve the Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 4 project./.
