When the new-style rural construction program has been implemented, the reality of the rural transport system in the province is still quite weak, there are many soil roads and temporary bridges. Through the assessment, the traffic criterion is very difficult to implement, especially in places with weak ground, interlaced canal system such as in Dong Thap Muoi region because the investment capital is large and the site clearance is also related because many projects have to be expanded, etc.

However, from the efforts of all levels, sectors and the consensus of the people, many bridges and rural roads have been invested to expand, asphalt, concrete, cover with red gravel, etc. According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, implementing the policy "the State and people work together", the movement to donate land for building road has spread deeply and widely among cadres, party members and the masses of the people. Typically, Mr. Nguyen Luong Duyen (living in Khanh Hung commune, Vinh Hung district) has donated nearly 6 hectares of farming land; Mr. Nguyen Van Thoi (living in Vinh Dai commune, Tan Hung district) has donated nearly 5 hectares of farming land for building rural traffic roads; etc.

Besides individuals, many localities have called for and mobilized great contributions from individuals, organizations and businesses to make rural traffic roads, especially districts of Chau Thanh and Tan Tru. In addition, in the implementation of rural transport investment, the province also mobilizes funding from the program to build rural bridges in 6 border districts and townlets of the province, mobilized by former State President - Truong Tan Sang.

Through implementing the program, the daily traffic infrastructure has been connected and more synchronous. Since then, it significantly contributes to the overall development of the province. In 2010, when the program of building new-style rural was started to implement, the whole province has only 2 basic communes meeting the traffic criteria through the survey, but so far more than 90 communes have met the these criteria.

According to statistics of the Department of Transport, by 2019, the whole province has 8,153 kilometers of roads (an increase of more than 3,000 kilometers compared to 2010); among them, asphalt concrete road is more than 435 kilometers (an increase of nearly 151 kilometers compared to 2010), asphalt road is more than 2,718 kilometers (an increase of 2,165 kilometers compared to 2010), cement concrete road 1,48 kilometers (an increase of 1,263 kilometers compared to 2010) , the gravel road is nearly 2,351 kilometers (decreased by nearly 570 kilometers compared to 2010), the soil road is 1,161 kilometers (down more than 266 kilometers compared to 2010).

Looking at the concrete roads between the fields of Tan Tru district, Mr. Le Van Lam, living in Que My Thanh commune, shared: “In the commune, the district has many roads where people donate land to expand. The roads have created a new driving force for rural development and renewal".

"In the past, it was very difficult to travel because bridges and roads were temporary, small and narrow. This caused many obstacles to transporting goods and agricultural products. Now it is different, there are bridges, people are going easier and safer. The more bridges and roads are built and expanded, the better the development is", said Nguyen Thi Hong, living in My Thanh Dong commune, Duc Hue district.

In addition to the outstanding results, in general, the gravel road surface still accounts for a high proportion, the technical standards of rural roads still have many shortcomings such as the lack of signs, the encroachment of the road traffic safety corridor. In many places, the road surface is small and narrow, visibility is limited, the load capacity is low; Many routes have not been synchronized in the design of bridges, culverts and roads.

“In the coming time, rural transport will continue to be interested in investing and mobilizing many resources for implementation and performance. At the same time, the Department will pay attention to solutions to protect, repair, and maintain projects for long-term service"- Deputy Director of the Department of Transport - Nguyen Hoai Trung informed./.
