Vinh Hung develops OCOP products from local potentials and advantages

To implement the OCOP Program, Vinh Hung District of Long An Province has focused on drastically directing, implementing, supporting and providing necessary knowledge for participating producers. Since then, the product value has been enhanced, the consumption market has been expanded and the income of the producers has been enhanced.

OCOP products of Ngoc Lan Food Processing Facility are increasingly asserting their brand in the market

From the passion for doing business and the experience of making 7 OCOP products while living in Ben Luc district, after returning to her hometown in Vinh Binh commune, Vinh Hung district, Ms. Tran Thi Ngoc Lan - Co owner Ngoc Lan Food Processing Facility - boldly invested in processing local fruits.

After a period of research and selection, Ms. Ngoc Lan decided to choose cana fruit to process and bring to the market. She shared: “Cana an easy-to-grow plant that can do many dishes such as sugar-soaked, dried, crushed and mixed with salt and pepper, etc. Therefore, I decided to elevate this product meeting OCOP standards”.

In 2022, the dried and sugar-soaked cana of Ngoc Lan Food Processing Facility was recognized as a 3-star provincial OCOP product. In the past, cana was known as a seasonal fruit, so it was difficult to have them available all year round. However, at present, some varieties of cana can bear fruit all year round, thus solving the shortage of materials.

“Currently, in the Dong Thap Muoi region of the province, there are many families who grow cana, so the source of raw materials is very plentiful and the production cost is low. Production must go through many stages, of which the most important is the marinating. Accordingly, the cana needs to be marinated to absorb the spices, remove all the sour and acrid taste, and keep its characteristic flavor to attract customers "- Ms. Ngoc Lan said.

It is known that at present, Ngoc Lan Food Processing Facility has 11 3-star OCOP products, including: Sweet and sour tamarind sauce, salted kumquat, salted lemon, salt and pepper, dried cana, sugar-soaked cana, etc. Since these products have reached OCOP standards, they can reach not only domestic but also foreign market. This further affirms that OCOP products are gradually dominating the fastidious markets.

The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vinh Hung district informed that, in addition to the 2 products dried cana and sugar-soaked cana of Ngoc Lan Food Processing Facility, the district also has DTM purple jasmine rice of Vinh Thuan Agricultural Cooperative recognized as 3 star OCOP product .

Vinh Thuan Agricultural Cooperative currently produces over 510 hectares of rice. Of which, 50 hectares are produced organically in the direction of VietGAP and about 10 hectares are produced in DTM purple jasmine varieties. In addition, the cooperative also develops eco-tourism to maximize available advantages.

Manager of Vinh Thuan Agricultural Cooperative Ecological Amusement Park - Le Nguyen Phuong Uyen said: “The park is a part of the cooperative's activities to display and sell OCOP products such as DTM purple jasmine rice. In the coming time, the cooperative intends to expand the area of rice production in DTM purple jasmine rice to serve the needs of the market.

Deputy Head of Agriculture and Rural Development Department of Vinh Hung district - Le Quoc Bon informed: “The OCOP program has been bringing benefits to the community, changing the thinking about agricultural economy. Through the program, smallholders not only have conditions to access the market, bring products to consumers, create added value, but can also create new and quality products, through which, increase product value and income for local people. The program also contributes to the restructuring of the agricultural sector, developing forms production and services to compete in the market, promoting rural economic development towards sustainable and added value”.

“Vinh Hung district currently has 3 3-star OCOP products. In the coming time, the district will focus on selecting and investing in some more products. In particular, the district will focus on developing traditional products and local strengths. For the ones that have been recognized as OCOP products, the district will coordinate to try to maintain, promote and improve in terms of design and quality, step by step to promote the product "- Mr. Le Quoc Bon informed./.
