Chau Thanh quickly implements project producing 2,000 hectares of high-tech application dragon fruit

At the meeting, Standing Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee - Nguyen Van Duoc highly appreciated the results of implementing political tasks in Chau Thanh district over the past time. Particularly, the district soon achieved the goal of the project producing 2,000 hectares of high-tech application dragon fruit. In the coming time, Chau Thanh needs to identify dragon fruit as the main crop of the province, the district must propagate people to understand, be active, voluntarily switch to production following the high-tech application process and attach to organize production in the form of collective economic models; focusing on solving problems and difficulties in the field of agricultural production, especially removing the problems in linking 4 groups (including state, farmers, scientists and enterprises) and supporting farmers in consuming dragon fruits.

Simultaneously, Chau Thanh continued to focus on building a new-style rural district to ensure the progress as planned; focusing on improving people's lives, making clear changes of rural face and the operation of the political system at district and commune levels.

Pre-processing dragon fruit in Chau Thanh district

At the meeting, leaders of Chau Thanh district reported and informed that Chau Thanh district has focused on reviewing and planning the hi-tech application production area to implement and reach the results of the project producing 2,000 hectares of high-tech application dragon fruit. At the same time, the district developed a planning map of the area and determined the boundary of each region of each commune and town with an area of 2,000 hectares, with 5,315 households in the planned area.

Currently, the district has over 9,100 hectares producing dragon fruit. By June 2019, the whole district has been producing dragon fruit participated by 3,520 households with more than 2,077 hectares. The result reached 103.8 percent compared to the plan, In which, a pilot model was built with area of 849 hectares and participated by over 1,450 households, the district replicated this model with 1,228.5 hectares participated by 2,067 households.

Currently, the total area of the district is certified VietGAP 322.8 hectares with 483 households. In addition, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development is organizing fund to implement the production of dragon fruit under VietGAP standards for 11 cooperative teams participated by 417 households with an area of 272.1 hectares. 

The whole district now has 13 cooperatives with 495 members, with a production area of 385.6 hectares and 98 cooperative teams with 3,905 members, the area of 1,810.7 hectares. Generally, cooperatives and cooperative teams effectively operate step by step, actively participate in implementing the process of hi-tech application production dragon fruit as the core to replicate in the locality. However, there are still some cooperatives working monotonously with low achievements.

Chau Thanh currently has 109 advanced watering models with an area of 78 hectares. In which, there are 21 models in the project and 88 models outside the project. The initial advanced watering model effectively saves 70-80% of labor, 30-40% of, saves electricity and time. The district also developed 8 models of composting organic fertilizer from dragon fruit tree.

Especially, since the implementation of project producing 2,000 hectares of hi-tech application dragon fruit, the district has joined the provincial departments and branches to actively promote trade and find a stable output for dragon fruit. Currently, the district signed a contract with Nafoods Joint Stock Company to consume dragon fruit products in the form of processing packages. Simultaneously, the district also built a material area at Hoa Phu cooperative to have a plan to consume dragon fruits in the coming time.

According to the Chairman of Chau Thanh district People's Committee - Nguyen Van Thinh, the district faces many difficulties and obstacles in the process of implementing the project producing 2,000 hectares of hi-tech application dragon fruit. It is difficult to gather people to propagate and guide the production of dragon fruit under VietGAP standards. The most difficult problem of the district is that the output for dragon fruits is not sustainable and the linking product-consuming area  is quite small.

To ensure the roadmap and the target of implementing the project by 2020, in the coming time, Chau Thanh district will continue to promote the implementation of information and propaganda of the provincial policy on implementing the project of producing 2,000 hectares of hi-tech application dragon fruit. At the same time, the district mobilized 100 percent of the area in the region to implement the project using organic fertilizer, micro-organic fertilizer and using plant-protecting drugs following the instructions to ensure environmental hygiene. Trade promotion, finding stable output for dragon fruit products, building geographical indications, bar codes for product traceability, and so on continue to be implemented.

In addition to implementing the project producing 2,000 hectares of hi-tech application dragon fruit, Chau Thanh also implemented a breakthrough program to build a new-style rural district. Presently, the district is coordinating relevant provincial departments and branches to concentrate on completing dossiers and submitting them to the Central Coordination Office for being accredited. Generally, the process of implementing the National Target Program on new-style rural construction, the rural face of the district has changed clearly. Infrastructure such as transportation, irrigation, electricity, water, schools and hospitals are focused on upgrading and improving.

Secretary of Chau Thanh district Party Committee - Truong Van Biet excitedly informed that Resolution of the Xth district Party Congress, 2015-2020 tenure, the district identified 4 key projects. Up to now, there have been 3 projects completed and put into use, including the Project of the Relic Zone of Sub-division 3, the project of asphalting T1 Long Tri Road and the project of the district Children's House. The other project is Nguyen Thong Relic Area which has not been invested and built completely. In addition, by this time, 24 out of 24 targets in the field of economy, culture and society reached and surpassed the plan of the Xth district Party Congress.

On this occasion, Chau Thanh district suggested the province to invest in building National Road 50 to extend Can Duoc - Cho Gao section; soon deploy the dynamic axis connecting Ho Chi Minh City - Long An - Tien Giang; upgrade and expand Provincial Road 827B and 827C; upgrade and build some roads to complete the construction of districts meeting new-style rural standards./.
