“Investing in developing high-tech agriculture” is a breakthrough program set forth by the Resolution of the 12th Party Congress of the district, term 2020-2025. Up to now, the program has achieved 81.4% of the Resolution's target. In order to build a comprehensive high-tech rice cultivation model in the direction of commodity production, with high competitiveness, adapting to climate change, meeting the development requirements of the cause of industrialization and modernization of agriculture and rural areas, increasing income for farmers, the district focuses on investing, supporting people in the production process, building high-tech agricultural models and replicating effective models in localities.
Hamlet 4, Long Thuan commune, Thu Thua district was chosen by the province and district for implementing high-tech rice production pilot model
Thu Thua district chose Hamlet 4, Long Thuan commune for implementing the high-tech rice cultivation model. This place is also a pilot model of the province.
Recently, the commune has coordinated with the Provincial Agricultural Service Center to deploy 1 model with an area of 50 hectares; coordinated with the District Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to deploy and implement 5 models with a total area of 307 hectares.
In 2024 alone, the commune deployed and implemented the Project "Sustainable development of 1 million hectares of high-quality and low-emission rice cultivation associated with green growth in the Mekong Delta by 2030" according to Decision No. 1490/QD-TTg, dated November 27, 2023 of the Prime Minister.
Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Long Thuan Commune - Nguyen Huu Truc said: "The implementation and organization of the high -tech rice growing model has gradually changed the thinking and awareness of farmers. People are interested in using certified seeds, applying mechanization in the stages of land preparation, sowing, fertilizing, spraying, and harvesting.
Compared to outside the model, the number of times of fertilizing and spraying is reduced; the use of pesticides is limited. Thereby contributing to reducing soil and water pollution and protecting consumer health. Farmers participating in the model have higher profits than outside the model by 2-3 million VND/hectare".
In order to help people effectively implement the model, every year, the Commune Farmers' Association coordinates to organize seminars and training courses at the beginning of the season on soil preparation techniques, use of pesticides, fertilization, etc. Long Thuan Commune leaders focus on directing relevant sectors to coordinate with the Commune Farmers' Association to propagate to people about the effectiveness of applying high-tech agricultural practices in production. Specialized sectors and the Commune Farmers' Association coordinate to review and select typical and dedicated farming households to mobilize them to participate in implementing the model.
Mr. Trinh Van Tuong (Hamlet 4, Long Thuan Commune) shared: “My family has 4 hectares of rice, all of which are applying high - tech model and are supported a part of the cost of certified seeds, production materials, and renting equipment for spraying and fertilizing. The application of scientific and technical advances and high technology in production helps protect farmers' health, reduce labor, reduce investment costs and increase income compared to outside the model by more than 2 million VND/hectare”.
Despite to the achieved results, the implementation of the program still faces many difficulties. Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Long Thuan Commune - Nguyen Huu Truc added: "Some farmers still use more seeds and inorganic fertilizers than required by the model because they do not understand the benefits of reducing the amount of seeds to be sown, which will help save costs as well as using organic fertilizers to increase fertility, develop beneficial microorganisms, increase agricultural output, protect the environment, etc. In addition, some households have not formed the habit of recording production activities".
Growing rice using high - tech is an inevitable trend that contributes to protecting the environment in the current increasingly complex climate change conditions, protecting the health of producers and consumers and improving the quality of agricultural products. Therefore, all levels, sectors and localities in the district continue to promote information and propaganda to make people aware of the meaning and goals of high - tech production, gradually bringing the Resolution of the District Party Congress into reality./.
