Nguyen Thai Binh Scholarship Fund launched
Celebrating the 90th anniversary of establishing the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (March 26, 1931 - March 26, 2021) and the 80th anniversary of establishing the Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneers' Team (May 15, 1941 - May 15, 2021), the Standing Committee of the District Youth Union, the Team Council of Can Giuoc district of Long An province held the inaugural ceremony of the Nguyen Thai Binh Scholarship Fund and awarded 40 scholarships, each worth 1,000,000 VND to the students with difficult circumstances in the district.

The Secretary of the District Youth Union, Chairman of the Can Giuoc District Team Council - Tran Hai Phu said that the Nguyen Thai Binh Scholarship Fund was born to join hands, contribute to share a part of difficulties for students who are ambitious to learn in the district. The funds are formed from the contributions of elementary and junior high school students. The launch of the Scholarship Fund named after Mr. Nguyen Thai Binh aims to educate about the tradition of patriotism, thrifty spirit and compassion of students towards disadvantaged students who have the conditions to promote in school, practise and make progress together, be worthy of being a good child, a good student and a good son of Uncle Ho.
Mr. Nguyen Thai Binh was born on January 14, 1948 in Can Giuoc district. He came from a poor family with many brothers and sisters. As a child, he studied at Can Giuoc Primary School, now Nguyen Thai Binh Primary School. With his intelligent nature, he was always an excellent student. In 1966, he passed the exams to the School of Medicine, School of Pharmacy, Agriculture and Forestry School and the Saigon National Academy of Public Administration at that time. He chose Agriculture and Forestry School, with the desire to contribute to promoting the development of the agricultural industry.

In 1968, he received a scholarship and went to the US to study. During the process of studying abroad, he joined with international students to participate in meeting and protests and in 1972, at the 97th degree award ceremony of the school, when he was recognized as an honorary graduate, he announced " the owed blood of the American imperialism to the Vietnamese people" and was cut off his scholarship by the US International Development Agency and expelled him to his home country.
On July 2, 1972, on a Boeing 747, number 814 of Lien My Airlines, when the plane just landed at Tan Son Nhat airport, the enemy shot him, for the reason that he wanted to rob the plane. This was the scenario they set up to avoid the public opinion of Vietnam and the world. His death shocked public opinion at that time not only in the country, but also for the American officials because of a young talent.
Recognizing his special achievements in the resistance war against the US for national salvation, in 2010, the President signed tribute the title Hero of the People's Armed Forces to the martyr Nguyen Thai Binh. At the same time, Long An province built Nguyen Thai Binh souvenir area with an area of more than 3,000 square meters; to educate the patriotic traditions for the next generation and to be the highlight of the cultural and historical relic work of Can Giuoc district./.
