Steering Committee 1389 of Ministry of Defense checks prevention of smuggling in Long An

Since the beginning of 2019 until now, the Long An Border Guard has deployed plans and coordinated with forces to fight and prevent smuggling and trade frauds, contributing to the effective struggle against all kinds of crimes.

The main smuggled goods are cigarettes, sugar, electronic products, pigs, etc. The key area is the border line in the districts of Duc Hue, Vinh Hung, Tan Hung and Kien Tuong town.

The provincial Border Guard actively cooperated with the Party committees and local authorities in border districts and communes as well as functional forces to continue improving the efficiency and quality of Mass movements to protect the National security; focus on propagating laws to people in the border areas.

In 2019, Long An provincial Border Guard took the lead as well as coordinated to arrest and handle 146 cases with 61 individuals; seize more than 74 kilograms of all kinds of drugs, more than 143,200 packs of cigarettes (the total number of cigarettes seized in the whole province was over 3.5 million packages), 4 kilograms of firecrackers, 40 tons of scrap, 17 cars and 15 motorcycles that are means of transportation, 83 unknown origin motorcycles, and many other exhibits, etc.

In addition, border guard forces prosecuted 3 cases with 5 individuals; handled 134 administrative violations with 44 individuals, handed over 9 cases with 12 individuals to the functional agencies. Only in nearly 1 month before Tet, the provincial Border Guard arrested and handled 12 cases with 6 individuals, seized 45,200 packages of contraband cigarettes, 11 kilograms of firecrackers, 5 tons of sugar, more than 6 tons of smuggled pigs, 2 cars and 15 motorcycles of unknown origin, and so on.

Senior Lieutenant General Le Chiem highly appreciated the efforts and results of the prevention of crime, drugs, smuggling and trade frauds of Long An province in general and the provincial Border Guard in particular.

He asked the units to continue performing well the task of preventing and combating crimes and preserving political security, social order and safety in the locality; coordinate, proactively grasp the situation of the area to promptly advise the superior to handle the cases effectively.

During the Lunar New Year, he urged units to deploy drastically the plan of combat readiness; seriously maintain the duty and strengthen their forces in the key areas; regularly train their bravery for officials, soldiers and mobilize people in the border areas to strictly abide by the Party's guidelines; policies and laws of the Government; resolutely fight against legal violations.

On this occasion, Senior Lieutenant General Le Chiem sent Tet greetings and gave gifts to the units of the provincial Border Guard and the provincial Military Command./.
